Location: DUMPING CATS AND PIGS IN TEXAS :) | It depends on what you're willing to lose if it doesn't work out. The pedigree is ok. Nothing great. The horses you will be racing will have some very nice pedigrees. Pedigrees don't win a race though. There are many variables to consider. Everything is a variable. A quote I always keep in my head is "any horse can win any race on any given day" and I've seen it happen, but you'd better be willing to lose every dollar before you start. It is expensive and more than likely you won't break even.

The sire has. The dam is mine. She was unraced and I lost the only foal she has had.
Thanks for the advice, lrqhs. Just what I was looking for. |

Kim, sire has a SI 104...he can run some I would say! He belonged to a friend, but is in Canada now. I don't know how to look up all his starters, but Jess Dashin Ta Fame is a stakes winner, earnings of $26k. He belongs to a BB, BarrelhorseUSA (I think?), or whatever he goes by now???
I just started playing this around in my head recently. She's not due until the first of May, so that's probably a deal breaker anyway. Thanks for letting me sound my ideas off of you all! Really appreciate the advice!

| I'm not specifically track smart, but here is my 2 cents. He has a nice top side, Mr Jess Perry throws nice sons, so I wouldn't doubt that he will at least be decent. Easy Jet and Go Man Go far back on bottom, but I would give him a shot. Not bred much different than some of our local colts who are storming the track (Jess Special is his sire's half brother, and he is a very nice producer for fast racehorses). Treasured Too was a good racehorse, so its worth a shot if your willing to gamble, which it can be the top bred horse in the world and it could be a better dressage pony. haha |

Thanks for your input. Just wanted to point out that my mare might not be the best/hottest bred, there are nice horses closer than Go Man Go and Easy Jet. Kitman has an impressive race record and has produced race and performance offspring, including a 4-time NFR qualifier (Rackum On Man). Treasured Too is the #6 all time leading sire. Her dam is a race winner. I love my mare, but she's just the kids' babysitter. No performance record. I don't know what kind of pedigree, money, commitment, etc. it takes to make it on the track. So, thanks again to all that replied! |

Your mare's sire is also a AAA/Stakes Producer...To me is doesn't mean a thing that she is unraced. The pedigree is there. |

Location: Opelousas, LA | The tough thing about paint racing is there are not many options to run APHA only races. Unless they are a stakes horse, it is even harder to make money with a paint than a QH.
Racing in OK would probably be your best bet and with a May baby, I would focus on finding a small barn. One like yours will get "lost" in the shuffle of a large program, but you will still get the bills.
Be prepared to lose at least $1500 a month when its all said and done. |

For how long? What would a normal timeline look like? Is OK better than AR? |

Oklahoma races for paints are run with the Appaloosas. The only track in Ark is Hot Springs and they only run TB's. |

Location: Montana | I'm no track expert, but I don't think that pedigree has anything in it that would preclude the colt making a racehorse. No holes that I see.
I remember when we took a nice colt from Money's second crop to the track - so that much have been 2003 - the trainer told us what he said he told everyone new. He figured if you didn't have $14K that you could afford to flush down the toilet, you really should not be running a racehorse. He figured $4K of that was buying the prospect and $10K would be expenses. We didn't have to buy the colt of course and we just ignored the advice otherwise . . . .
We baled on the whole deal before we had flushed $10K but we flushed a lot. And we made the only starter our stud had that wasn't a winner and AA. Gee, proud of that.
Our colt came home really sick, but at least he was still sound so we could sell him to a very nice barrel racer.
Obviously, expenses are going to be higher now.
I've love to say "YES!" because really, racing is very fun! But you have to be willing to risk a lot of cash and getting your colt hurt. But it is fun! And I'll be back to it the second I win the lotto!

Location: DUMPING CATS AND PIGS IN TEXAS :) | Oh, it is fun lol! I lovvveeeee it! But, it's not cheap and the odds are against you. That's why I said only play with what you are willing to lose. You will have at least 3 months of training before you see a race (at least). The paint purses are not that great. By the time you're up to your second out, you are starting to feel the strain on your pocket. It is gambling lol. And, super addictive lol. |
