| Switched my horse over to whole oats and alfalfa pellets. He has grass hay. Besides Equipride (he really hates it) What other vitamin & mineral supplement are you feeding. I'm just getting him back to work. Also should I add barley for better topline? Would like to hear from COB feeders also. |

Location: Cocoa, Florida | I feed whole oats, I mix with t&a pellets, sometimes beet pulp,ground flax seed, coco soya oil and I use SmART PAk daily vitamins smart thrite vive pellets. |

| Oats and alfalfa are the benchmarks feed companies use to try to match their trash items to on nutrients ....
Only thing I have added to my oats and alfalfa feeding program is ADM GroStrong minerals ... they have the correct amount and the right vitamins to help horse to absorb the minerals. They also chelate their minerals so they are readily absorbable too ....
Good hay and the above keeps a horse, baby or broodmare in excellent condition ... |

| I would go with a vitamin suppliment and a mineral suppliment in addition to adding whole flax or freshly ground flax I grind up minutes before |

| We feed beet pulp with whole oats, milled flax, and Hoffmans Mineral. We also feed good quality grass hay, but will add some alfalfa if somebody seems to be lacking... right now we are down to 3 horses and they're all pretty easy keepers so the grass hay is all they're getting. |

Location: Idaho | I feed Seabucks with my whole oats + loose free minerals. I am looking into a more balanced mineral supplement like formula 707 or somehting like that. But my horses look and feel great and I think processed feeds are not easy on horses guts and I also like to know what exactly my horses are eating... kind of like what I eat, I don't eat processed food either, so the simplier the better  |

Location: Texas | I feed nutrena empower and 707 daily essentials with a little bit of alfalfa pellets and coastal hay. I had one horse that when I took him off oats he started bleeding. Our him back on it and he stopped. A friend said her horse did the same |

| I haven't fed this with whole oats but I am absolutely in love with Figuerola Laboratories Equine Saver. I had originally had my husband's head horse on it because she was looking a little poor due to the quality of hay that is currently available at our local feed barn and she showed a noticeable difference in body condition and hair coat in just 2 weeks. I was so impressed with the results I switched all of my horses over to it.
I have a gelding that came off the track two years ago. I have never been able to put a lot of weight on him, his hair coat has always been very coarse and dull and his skin was always really dry. He has been on this for about 3 weeks and his hair is getting so soft and shinny and he is starting to fill out in his loin which has always been his problem area!
It is not just vitamin and minerals though, it is a general all purpose supplement.

| JW What is the benefits of feeding oats? Ive been told in the past to feed oats and alfalfa. Never quite understood why? |

| The horses we are using daily get fed crimped oats over whole but I don't think it really matters, I think they digest them about the same. mix it with Rice bran, joint supplement(just ordered actiflex 4000), salt, and I supplement Vitamin E in the winter. We feed 5lbs alfalfa morning and night 15-30 minutes before grain and they have grass hay in front of them at all times. Those that are turned out on pasture have round bales, alfalfa twice a day, and we keep salt and mineral blacks out. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I have fed oats, I like other feeds better. I use Muscle Mass for all my horses that are in getting grain. It's a complete supplement with vitamins, minerals and amino acids as well as electrolytes. You can add several things to personalize it to your horses needs as well. Ulcer, hoof, joints, bleeders, hair & coat, calming, moody mare, senior. That is just a few off the top of my head. |

Location: Texas | I fed oats because I like the natural the better. You never know what you are getting in processed feeds and I don't like feeding them molasses. All my horses have done well on it. To me the crimped is too dusty, do I stick to the whole |

Location: South MS | I have a 15.1hd, 1100# gelding - I use a 3QT scp - he gets 1qt (1/3 scp) rolled/crimpled oats, 2qt (2/3 scp) beet pulp-soaked, 1/2 cup flax-Omega Field Horseshine-tractor supply - then he stays turned out as much as possible and gets all the grass hay he can eat - he does get alfalfa daily as well
My horse was having inflammatory issues and allergies so I am trying to go the more natural route to alleviate some of the problems... |

Location: My Own Little World | OK, so here's my 2cents worth. I am currently feeding an orchard/alfalfa mix, 2 cups of Renewgold, THE supplement, 1/2 cup DE, and a TBSP of kelp. In the past, I have used VitaStress for my supplement. Really like the bang for your buck with it. I am currently using THE because they are great priced and really help you figure out what is good for your horse. |
