Location: Wonderful Wyoming | My first ever order of chicks came today, one was smashed flat at the bottom of the box and they were standing on my free exotic chickie. Got them home, did all the things the book said and I am hoping I can get the exotic to come around. Any ideas? I got it to drink just a bit and gave it some poultry drench (full of vitamins and minerals) but not sure if he is a quitter or hurt internally from them stepping on him. Do they ever come around? or pretty much die? |

Location: Texas | They are pretty fragile and it's hard to bring one back. Make sure you are keeping him under a heat lamp or incubater so it stays warm and separate it from the other chicks or they will turn on it. Good Luck little chickie |

They already refunded my one chick that died, I wasn't sure which kind so they refunded the most expensive one...and said to call them back if the exotic didn't make it. Not sure what they will do as he was a freebie. They have great customer service. I'm a little worried now as the Postal worker called as soon as they came in and said it was really cold out on the loading dock and he wasn't sure how long they were out there. I just checked on them again and another one keeps shaking her head and scratching at it. Hope she isn't getting a cold. This is super stressful. Next time I think I will just buy older chicks/pullets. |

Chicks can be stressful. They are so tiny and fragile that the littlest things effect them. Keep the heat lamps going.

| TSC says they don't feed their new chicks for 24 hrs. I give mine Sav-A-Chick with Probiotics (made by same company) in their water any time I feel they are stressed like when shipped, moulting, move them, etc.

Location: Southeastern Idaho | I hate opening the box when I get my meat chicks or layers....I hate to see the dead or weak little guys. I have gotten where I go to the local feed stores and pick out those that are already on feed and water. I have asked my local feed store if they would order in the breeds I want. :) So far that is working well. I haven't been able to find the number of meat birds so I am probably going to have to order them from the hatchery still.
McMurray is a great hatchery and have beautiful birds. I have always been very happy with the customer service there. I looked around and found a hatchery in Idaho so that is where I have been ordering meat chicks from, they don't have to ship as far and I feel better about that and am hoping it decreases my death loss.

Location: South Dakota | I used to work for the Canadian Postal service, and those little chicks sometimes sit around at the post office for way too long, in cold, drafty areas...it used to bother me so much...just felt so sorry for the little guys.
I would like to order some exotic chicks from Mcmurray, but dread the idea of opening the box to find dead ones or almost dead..:(
If I lived closer to them, I'd just drive and pick them up at the hatchery...There must be a better way to deliver the chicks, than by mail?? |

I used to work for the Canadian Postal service, and those little chicks sometimes sit around at the post office for way too long, in cold, drafty areas...it used to bother me so much...just felt so sorry for the little guys.
I would like to order some exotic chicks from Mcmurray, but dread the idea of opening the box to find dead ones or almost dead..:(
If I lived closer to them, I'd just drive and pick them up at the hatchery...There must be a better way to deliver the chicks, than by mail??
I don't know where McMurrays is but Strombergs is here in MN and maybe they could get to you quicker if you need some. |

When I worked for Tsc we immediately put them in the troughs with food and water. Those little boogers can eat!! I would periodically go check on them during my shift, as they were very prone to being trampled by the others or being squished by the waterers/ feeders. You have to be really careful when replacing those after filling, its easy to get one caught under it!! |

The rest are doing really well. They are priced well and I have a lot of ranchy neighbors that order from them and have all had really good luck with healthy chicks and great customer service. The dead chick, who knows and my exotic was fine at the PO but I don't know if my wild driving on the county dirt road got him or what (my attempt at humor). |

Location: Kansas | I was at the post office the other day and heard the baby chicks cheeping in the back room. I asked a worker what the heck.........couldn't believe these tiny two day old chicks were delivered by mail. We raised chicks when I was a kid and I know how delicate they are.

I kinda nutted up on the guy because a couple tubs of chicks didn't have water and were peeping a lot. He said they water them but don't feed for 24 hrs or they are more likely to die. IDK.......I'd not heard that before and I always fed mine right off the bat and not had any issues. |
