I feel crazy when I post this but im starting to think it may be true. My barrel horse is 13 I can run him at a pro rodeo or any kind of big rodeo he clocks amazing.
Bring to a 5d jackpot.....He ran into the fence on the first night just passed up the barrel, the 2nd night we plow over the the barrel, just acts like he is a green horse and hasn't a clue of what he is doing. Idk if its cause they don't have any loud music playin cause he thrives off a crowd and lights.

*videos are the only ones I have on my phone at the moment can get more once I get off work*

Have you run him at a rodeo since??  Could be the timing of the start of some pain issue......but yes some horses thrive on the distractions at the rodeo's.

usually they just don't run, they usually push harder at a rodeo then at a jackpot. Running by or over I would think pain.

Mine ran hot and kind of stupid after two rodeos because the rodeos got her too excited.

It could be that you ride more aggressive or more relaxed at a rodeo than a jackpot.

Horses feed off their riders.  I would put $$$ that you're riding differently at a jackpot than at a rodeo.

Have any videos of you at a rodeo and at a jackpot? I agree you could be riding differently and just not noticing it.

It seemed that my good rodeo horses did better at big rodeos than at smaller ones or jackpots, and it was probably because I rode better at the bigger runs.

I definitely agree with the others. You probably have a lot more energy in your riding.

But that being said, there is a horse here that thrives at rodeos and couldn't place at a local jackpot. She has all her friends screaming bloody murder for him at jackpots now getting him to run.

Yes, I think horses have a preference sometimes. My rodeo mare ( Jonetta) won rodeos and tough winter rodeo rounds with everyone entered but take her to a jackpot; she would run 3d times.. she wouldnt run or work hard. She basically acted like they were exhibitions. For yours; Id have the horse checked for pain issues and stick w rodeos. Once i figured out Jonetta liked rodeos, she was never run at another jackpot or barrel race until her last one at the Charmayne invitational in vegas which she won but crippled herself retired in the 2nd go.

The runs where he doesn't do well all appear to be inside indoor arenas. Have you run him at an outdoor jackpot and had the same issue?

I agree......I've seen a lot of rodeo horses who kick butt at a rodeo, being top 5....and then are 3D/4D at a jackpot. Some of those horses just thrive on the crowd, sounds like your gelding is one of those.
