I have not been in here in what seems like forever but need some insight on this from anyone that uses it and what you think of the results.
I have my horse on Smartpak Double strength farriers formula, its expensive $70 a month. I have been told that I can give gelatin instead in my horses feed and it will help with his feet, anyone ?? An old farriers remedy. Thanks!

Same here! It's helped a lot and it's cheap.

After having a horse with horrible feet a few years ago I've learned a lot about supplements. I feed forco and omegafields horseshine. Both of these products together have made a very big difference in my horse's all over health, improved hair, and hoof quality.

when I googled for information I found several articles that recommended feeding 2 packets a day for at least 2 months to see a difference. So I am going to try that because in the far past when we did this we only used 1 packet and didn't see results.

I always heard that it would help strengthen the hoof wall and sole. My sister had a really nice horse who couldn't hold a shoe because his feet would just crumble and peel. She fed gelatin and all kinds of stuff. The only thing that helped this particular horse was Farrier's Formula. It didn't cure his problem but he could hold a shoe for 5 weeks instead of 2. On side note, I used FF on a mare in foal and when that filly was born she looked like a 2 month old filly. She had really good bone and not the drawn up look that newborns have. She was a normal newborn size just more mature looking. My sister's farrier, Mr. Estrada at Alpine had the school use it on their broodmares and showed us the difference in bone size on the ones fed it versus the mares' not fed it. It was pretty impressive. But last I looked that stuff was kind of expensive to feed.

Yes, FF Double Strength is expensive, $70 per month according to their feeding instructions which call for a larger dose for 8 months! My horse has always been shod all the way around, when I moved to Ga I had his back shoes pulled and contined with shoes on front, then I moved him to another barn where it was more wet then the previous barn, more dirt than sand. Anyway, he was throwing a shoe every week so I had the fronts pulled but started using venus terpentine to strengthen his sole, but next thing I know he comes up lame with an abcess. Meanwhile I start him on FF to strengthen his hooves and hope I can put shoes back on him and he will hold a shoe on. He is sound again but still barefoot. I want to put shoes back on his fronts and hope he holds them. I am also going to suggest my farrier put clips on, he hadn't been and hopefully that will help. I would like to try the geletin and see if it works, It can't hurt and its much more cheaper than FF.

I have had people tell me to do it, so I bought some... but it takes a long, long time for hooves to grow out and I wasn't patient enough to keep on it.  I might as well start again this evening since I have some more packets to get rid of..

I started feeding some Biotin product from TSC/Atwoods (tall white container with red lid. I can't remember the brand) around the same time as the gelatin and I've stuck with the Biotin and my geldings hooves seem much better than they were when we started..... but he's also on stall rest and that probably is helping them more than anything!

I tried it for 90 days and never saw a difference.

I now have all mine on Performance Detox by Animal Element and their feet grow great! They must be kept on a 6 week recall with the farrier.

Mine is on AE now and although I like it, it has not made a difference in his feet.

Yeah, it takes a year for thier feet to grow all new foot, I just want mine to toughen up and hold a shoe! lol Back when I had no problem with him holding shoes on, he was stalled 24/7 and only ridden in the indoor...that was why, no stomping flies outside, consistent footing vs dry then wet...
