  If it Ain't a Paint it Ain't!
Location: Mansfield, Tx | Those that have used or are using Fly predators... I have a few questions..
Is there a time that it's to late to put them out?
Can you use them if it's still wet out?
Fly's are starting to get bad but with this rain that has come in there is water standing
so I'm worried about putting them out... ( but it should be dry in a few days I hope)
Can you use to many of them?
I have a smaller dry pen with 4 horse's in it so I'm cleaning up a lot ..
Thank you in advance. |

Location: SE KS | Season wise, it's better to put them out as early as you can to control the flies & keeping them from reproducing so many.
I use them mainly in & around the barn, so long as it's not too cold out & you don't drown them!!
They have a chart showing how many fly predators/horse are needed. I try to be on the high side of their suggestion, just to make sure they keep up with the flies.
I have used both brands & I don't see a difference between the 2. I do believe they work good. Although, some have commented that if there are cattle close by they don't work as well!

Location: Home....Smiling M Farms | I love my fly predators. Get them out early, before flies get bad and they are more efficient. It's hard for them to do their job once flies are already everywhere. They have really cut down on the number of flies at my place.
I wish they made mosquito predators! lol
Yes, you can still use fly spray. :) |

| IMO they don't put a dent in the fly population! But IA flies are BAD so hopefully you'll have better luck! |

Most definately - Predators are just a fly/bug creature that eats the fly larvae. They never worked for me a bit though. |

| Where around the barn is the best place to release them? In the runs or in barn itself? Manure pile? |

Totally agree!!
Yeah - they have helped me cut down on the number of flies. They did work way better before my neighbor got pigs. There's definitely an impact on how effective they are if you are surrounded by neighboring properties with livestock that don't have fly control methods.
I split mine and put 1/2 by the manure pile and the other 1/2 the backside of their paddock. They will drown though so try to keep them out of low areas. |

| You should not use fly spray around the predators; it will kill them. I take my horses out of the stalls/area where predators are to spray them. I also do not put the predators out when it is extremely wet (if possible). I have had good luck with the predators and have been using them for several years. You will notice a bigger difference after the first year. |
