I am just looking for information here....I had an MRI done on my knee in September because it has been bothering me and after a small accident, but with it had taken a while to heal I know I will need to see a specialist soon.
My MRI showed:
Widespread chrondromalacia, grade 4
Small subtle OCD lesion in lateral tibial plateau

I will have to do something soon if I don't get my clumsiness under control

I'm not  sure on specifics but two of my friends had knee surgery at a very young age. Both rode, one jumper one roper. And neither played sports or strained to much.
One was 19 when she had her first surgery and 24 when she had her second
The other freined was 18 when she had her fist surgery and 21 when she had her second surgery.

I also had a friend who, by the time she was in her mid thirties had already had 5 surgeries done on her knee...

Good luck and hugs to you.

I have had no surgeries on my knee but have lived with pain in it most of my life.....not really a big deal until recently. I still am not convinced that even injections are the way to go since I can still deal with the pain. My main concern is that I can't "trust"it....if that makes sense. I am 42 and still believe I am too young to have this issue.

I had a torn meniscus repaired and at that time the ortho scraped my joint as it was full of arthritis. 3 months later it was almost as bad as it was with the torn meniscus when the piece would flip into the joint. Was told then I needed a full knee replacement. I didn't want any part of that and my sister in law told me to go get my knee injected which 2 ortho's said wouldn't help. The Osteo Relief Institute is the bomb and I wished I had it injected a long time ago. The Osteo Relief Institute has a machine, like an x-ray that shows where the joint is. 30% of injections don't work because the med doesn't get into the joint. I couldn't believe the relief I got having my knees injected. I will continue to do that and will probably not get my knee replaced.

My sister has bad RA and had both of her knees replaced when she was 50. She said it's the best thing she ever did and is back riding and running barrels.

Osteo Relief Institute off of 1604 and Stone Oak Parkway, San Antonio. Best thing I ever did. My sister in law has been getting her knee injected since 2000. The ortho doctors can't believe it as he knees are really shot. She still runs barrels and is 70 years old.

How long did it take you to recover from the injections? I know this next question will be different for everyone but how often do you have to get the injections?

I had a tibial plateau fracture among other trauma to my right knee. I have constant pain and arthritis in it and spoke to my Uncle (who is an orthopedic surgeon) about a knee replacement. His opinion was for me to wait as long as I could because of my age. When done under 60 they often need to be done a second time and knee replacements aren't as successful after the first. He is 65 and is waiting another few yeas to have his own knee done.

Of course he performs knee replacements on people much younger than 60, but his opinion to me as a family member was to wait.

I had a total knee replacement at age 45 had it Redone 2 years ago (6 years from the first) the first one was not done correctly had nothing but pain and problems. Took me seeing about 10 other Orthos to finally get one to really look at it discovered it was jumping the post was the wrong size and other things. This second one has really been good no more continuous pain. I'm glad I had it done because even though I still have issues its nothing like it was.

There are different meds that they use but because of I am allergic to so many things..they give me Orthovisc. It's suppose to be 4 injections a week apart. I only do 3. There is no down time...I just had my knee injected on Monday and we went grocery shopping and the next day I walked 1.5 miles. They have recommended every 6 months but because of Obamacare screwing up my good insurance with a huge deductible...I went 2 years without having it injected. I had it done twice before the change of insurance. I really needed it done but I just didn't want to spend the money so I didn't. I was having trouble walking a mile without it bothering me. I had a spur in the middle of my knee and I couldn't kneel on it. It either dissolved after or broke off after having the second series of injections.
As far as I know...most knees last about 20 years. My niece had Juvenille RA and is now 46. She has had 3 knee replacements and has has had both thumbs, both ankles, an elbow and and both wrists replaced.

I had a doctor inject my knee the first time and he must have missed the joint as I didn't get very much relief. This is the only place I would have it done. Here is a link and they have offices all over the country. Since this is the only thing they do...Their doctors are good and most of the time, all you feel is some pressure when they are doing the injection.

Just an FYI -- some of the insurance companies are not paying for the radiology needed to make sure the injection is in the joint. They state that it's included/bundled and/or medically unnecessary.

I had microfracturing and patella work last spring. I picked the wrong Ortho. doctor. He took 2 pieces out the size of large marbles from my medial femoral condyle. He left a small 8mmx5mmx1mm loose piece of cartiledge. I had an MRI after surgery this fall after the pain in my knee.

Had it injected in July with synvisc. Had a severe blown up knee 14 days later and huge pain while I went home to visit my mom for her 91st birthday. Had a miserable drive for the 997 miles each direction. I guess I am allergic to it.

Went and got a second opinion from a different ortho. group and a specialist for knees replacement. He looked at current MRI (post surgery) and said I was not a candidate and really best to not do it if you do not have to. He was the one to explain the MRI, finding the loose piece and areas of edema. Thought maybe the doctor who did surgery could go take piece out, as it catches now and I have to pop it to walk on some days.

Do your home work and find a really good Ortho. doctor. The one I had said there is nothing he can do or will do for me. Yet, he wants me to come back in 6 weeks.

I cancelled my appointment. I will not give him another penny from my $40 co-pay or want my insurance to give him another penny.

Good luck from NM.

I'll call and double check with my sister, they live 1200 miles from me so I haven't been there when she has had her surgeries but I sure thought she said ankle but I could be wrong.

I have had both knees replaced.  Right at 42 and left at 47- Best thing I ever did.  The first one (right) was tough.  Had complications and issues.  Plus I was a big baby because it hurt.  But once I got over it and got on with  the physical therapy-life was sooo much better.  Last one - the left- no issues whatsoever.  Recovery, TP and all were excellent.  Getting them done made life so so much better and more fun.
