| I own 2 horses.
I also own a 4 horse w/12ft LQ.
Now I love everything about this trailer, but I always feel like it is overkill for me to zoom around town with this monster towing behind me.
I have put some serious thought into purchasing a little 2 horse bp straight load for my short trips.
But then why would I have two trailers??
So my question is:
Have any of you ever downsized your trailer size?
Have any of you ever bought a smaller short trip trailer in addition to your LQ?
What factored into your decision? Are you happy you made the switch? |

Location: sunny california | I have two trailers a 3 horse LQ 14' and a 16 ft stock trailer. i like the stock to haul babies, hay, firewood, furniture or just go to local one day jackpots. |

| I have two trailers, my lq is paid for, and works for what I need.
My daily trailer, I got a great deal on it, and I save the money in fuel throughout the year to keep both around.
Honestly if you can afford to have both keep both as if you ever want another lq, you will be paying a lot more for one you may not love as much.
Also if you are only getting a 2 horse bumper pull and haul a lot, your fuel saving would probably make your trailer payments over 5 years
I personally wouldn't do a straight load, as it limits what you can do with the trailer. I would go with an angle haul that way you can use the trailer for other things such as hauling a quad, moving friends furniture, etc.
Also the straight load just seem too confining, I know some horses will refuse to get into them.

I'd think you would lose money if you sell the LQ now and later decide to get another one.
So, if you can afford it I would stick with your LQ and add a smaller one. |

Location: Where you need a paddle... Oregon! | When I was married we had a 3 horse with 13' LQ. I had to use it for everything and it was a pain for short trips to local arenas to ride, etc. I got an older 2 horse straight load from my dad and it came in very handy. I trained all the horses to load into it just in case I needed it in an emergency (a couple of the horses already loaded into it without training). My ex-husband got the LQ in the divorce and I happily kept the 2 horse. I sold one of my horses so I'm down to just one. I have my trailer set up that the divider is always opened and hooked so she rides like a slant. I have the other side set up with buckets in the manger, and I rigged it up to have the pick and an extra saddle stand on the other side. It works real nice. I can still haul 2 in there by putting the stantion back and putting the buckets and stuff in the little tack area under the mangers. So much easier for local playdays and where the parking and turn around areas are small. |

| I'd keep what you have and buy a run around trailer if you can afford both. It's so nice to have the extra stalls for storage and such. |

| We have a 4 horse LQ trailer and a stock combo 24 foot. I just recently bought a 12 foot bumper hitch for a "running around trailer". I got a great deal and we think it will be handy to take when only taking one or two.......we thought about selling the stock combo now that we have this little one but we have cattle as well and we use it for them as well....and it's paid for. I am sure I will save $$$ in fuel as I can use a half ton to pull the little trailer as opposed to hooking up our big truck to pull the big trailers. If you can find a decent deal buy a little one..... |

| We have two.
A living quarters for overnight trips, and a stock combo for day trips. We haul to indoor arenas regularly, so always using the lqs was a pain. We had a chance to buy the stock combo for a really good price so we jumped on it. |

Location: Southern Indiana | I just purchased a 2 horse bp a couple months ago. I have a 4h w/10ft lq. It's my grandpas and he only uses it a couple times a year but I wanted something of my own. I haven't even pulled the big trailer since I bought the bp. It's so handy to hook on to if I want to go ride. Will be much easier for trips to the vet. I'm glad I got it and I'm sure I will have it for several years. I would not give up my big trailer for it though! I stay all night at shows a lot and like the extra storage. My big horses are also slightly cramped in the 7' wide. They fit, but it's just not as roomy.
If it's just you, you'd probably be happy with a 3 horse 8ft sw. However, if you like your big trailer and use it frequently don't get rid of it. Find a nice run around trailer if it's in your budget. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | I can't believe how many people don't take care of their trailers and this is the reason I haven't sold mine to get a smaller trailer as I know the care it has gotten. I would find a small run around trailer if you can swing it and keep your big trailer.

The little trailer is so handy to have for quick trips to the vet and I can take it anywhere. My biggest problem is that two of my three horses are on the bigger side and can't both ride comfortably in the BP. It's 6' wide.
Also, if you have a back up camera in your truck the bumper pulls are 10x easier to hook up to! |

I had a little 2 horse GN slant I pulled to college, and used it for a couple years after, wanted something to haul at least 3, so I ordered a titan stock/combo, looked into selling my little 2 horse because I know there is alittle bit of a market for those, but no one wanted to give me what it was worth to keep it, so I have 2 sitting out in the weeds right now. :) |

Location: South of Canada and North of Mexico | I have a 2h straight load featherlite, LOVE it, I wish it was a GN to have just a little more storage, but at this time I only have a 1/2t super short bed truck. My divider comes out as well as the posts, so yes you can haula 4 wheeler or hay or furniture. Its come in handy for hauling other things as it does my horses ( I can fit 50+) squares in there. Personally I would probably get a 3 horse just for one extra spot, but I love my straight load, have not had issues with loading or unloading, its very roomy, 7'6 tall and had more length from butt bar to chest, which worked great for my long bodied gelding. It doesnt use up much gas hauling it, and its easy to tow. |

Location: Central Washington | We have a 4 horse living qtrs....hate having to use it to run 1 to the vet, or pick up 1 horse. I also really dislike making payments on it!
My kids think I am crazy, but I really am thinking I want to get a 3 horse bumper pull and camper for rodeos/over night trips and a stock trailer for when we need to haul more than 3 horses or cattle.
We have 4 kids, so we actually would have more sleeping room in a cab over camper! Plus a small trailer AND a big trailer when needed! |

Location: Okemah,OK | We have two trailers as well. The living quarters trailer is 10 years old, we bought it new, have taken great care of it and I hope it lasts another 10 years! I have priced new living quarters trailers just for kicks and wow they are high high high.... Plus they want to really knock you down on the value of yours ! We used to have a little 3 horse bumper pull with a walk in tack but my husband hates a bumper pull so we traded it in on a 4 horse gooseneck without living quarters a few years ago. It's a great, lightweight trailer to haul to somewhere close, vet, etc. So now we have the living quarters and the 4 horse gooseneck.... I'd keep your living quarters if you can. |
