Don't look at me like that.  I know I'm weird, and by now you should now that  June is when we begin to figure out what we're doing for our Halloween event. So I need about  eighty stalks. Dead but intact.  I found one field out here but the house is creepy and I think I heard a banjo playing.  Who wants to ship me a bundle of dead corn stalks?

Anyone? Anyone at all.... No, please don't send the men in white coats...

Corn would be a veritable nightmare to ship.

I shipped a box of cotton stalks to someone last year and that was bad enough. I never heard from her after she opened the box, so they probably didn't ship well.

Yeah, shipping the corn would be a mess.  I just don't want to randomly go up to a farmer asking for anything. LOL.   I wonder if they could be made from tamale husk glued to sticks.  ??

I would in a heart beat!  But the ground out here is like cement.  Then there are the critters, rabbits, kafuffelles, snakes, dogs, horses.   I tried having tomato plants and pumkin plants and the darn animals ate it all.  Even with it fenced in.

You might be surprised at how often we get these kinds of requests.  Do they have corn farmers in AZ?

Too late in the year.... In ten days the days start becoming shorter.... This is the trigger that cues plants to start seeding out...

Mmmmm, no.  Not the way that works.  The plants have their own maturity rhythms determined by genetics.  You could plant 90 day corn right now and have stalks and ears by October.  My son planted some seed in August he found on the ground after harvest one year and got a couple of ears before frost killed it.    We routinely plant soybeans in late June/early July when double cropping with wheat, we just plant a faster maturing variety.

Our corn is tasseling right now, further south it's silking, and further north it might be knee high.

Good grief. Corn might be more valuable dead than alive.  12 stalks shipped is almost a hundred bucks.  Seriously.
I wonder if I can find 90 corn at Lowes? LOL.   Yes, Arizona is still growing corn.
I put my husband through so much shenanigans, I'm afraid of asking him to escort me to the farmer's house.  Kind of like a start of a bad joke...

So this crazy lady and her husband knock on the farmer's door...

If you have a old trough laying around use it to plant some corn and maybe by October you'll have your corn stalks that you will need for your spook house

yes, corn matures by growing degree units and different varieties have different days to maturity. it is soybeans that respond more to length of day but also have different maturities as well :) technology and genetics is amazing.

Riden keep me in mind also. I am in the heart of the corn belt here in Iowa. I am sure it would not be too hard to box up a shock of corn and UPS it too you.
