I have Nationwide. I changed a year or so ago because my previous company was getting so expensive. I don't know if Nationwide's rates are much different than others; I actually chose them because of their agent!  When a company is so hap-hazard that they don't even feel the need to return your calls, I look elsewhere.

If you qualify, Farm Bureau is good. I have a double wide and they do not insure "modular" housing. I could not get the lower farm rates and they told me that they could not beat what I had.

I've had Progressive, State Farm, and now Farm Bureau. We also had Grinnell Mutual quote us when we combined policies. Mostly it's depended on where I lived, my age, and what I was driving at the time which one got the business. I've only ever had to file a claim with progressive for vehicle damage, went smoothly. State Farm I took out a fir hydrant with a car I only had liability on, they took care of that too.

We have our farm and vehicles with Farm Bureau now. They came in significantly better priced for what we got than State Farm and Grinnell. My husband has had a few hail claims over the years and had good luck with them. Only complaint is every 6 months or so we get a pile of phone calls from them wanting us to schedule a meeting to review our policies - but our agent only ever seems to be in the office between 10 and 2 with an hour lunch in there (that's an exaggeration, but he doesn't apparently work past 3 most days, must be nice)...not very good for business IMO

After working in the industry for a few years, unless you qualify for AARP or something, all the other companies are pretty much the same, IMO. You'll hear good and bad things about all of them. I would look around for a local, highly recommended insurance broker, and have them get you quotes from all the different companies. They can find you a good deal, and it's nice to have help in case you have a claim or a question. A good agent can make a lot of difference. A lot of times you have to fight for your money and they can do that for you lol

My Farm Bureau guy comes to our place (actually goes to all his clients home) to review policy and offers evening and weekend time-frames. Your guy has better than bankers hours! lol

We also just moved to Texas Farm Bureau from State Farm on autos and farm. They quoted home (modular) but it was actually higher than current policy so we didn't move the home. But, with moving the vehicles (vehicles, horse trailer, travel trailer, motorcycle) we're saving $100 a month from what we were paying at State Farm. We've not had to file a claim yet so can't speak to the service yet.

This irritates the living CRAP out of me! You pay and pay premiums and they want to balk at paying if, heaven forbid, you ever file a claim. (Sorry, off my soapbox now)!

My parents had State Farm for everything. They switched to Farm Bureau(Sp?) and were reviewing both policies with their attorney. The attorney told them that State Farm was only covering building damages on the farm. Not what was inside. So should a fire destroy our barns and shops we would only be reimbursed for the buildings. Not what they contained. They also only had the first floor of my parents house covered, not the second story. The garage wasn't covered that was attached to the house and the MIL aprtment that is attached to the house was not covered with State Farm.
FB was hundreds cheaper per month for the farm and car bundle and they came to the house to take videos and phoos of everything they wanted insured.
The attorney review the new policy and approved.

I had State Farm insurance on one vehicle and was paying $135/month. Traded to a cheaper car with a better warranty and was told my insurance would not change with State Farm. Got it in writing as well. First bill for insurance was billed to my parents house (not mine right down the road) and had my mom listed as the owner, me listed as a driver and my dad listed as a driver. It was also for $185. Got that fixed and was told I owed the $185. Sent them the email stating $135 as a quote and and was told the person who gave me the quote was an intern and that it was void. Tried to reason with them and just paid the $185 as I got a cancelation notice in the mail. Flash forward to the next month and my then SO was listed as the owner and I was listed as the driver. Bill was for $205 because of "late fees". Call again to straighten things out and was told that I: "Shouldn't have bough the car if I couldn't pay them for insurance and that my excuses weren't going to get me out of paying."   I read them the email for the quote and was told that a quote is: "Not set in stone."  I told them I would pay $135/month or nothing at all. The agent hung up on me. I called Customer Service about this agent and was only refered to a different agent in town. No appologies, no report done on the agent, just a: "Let me transfer you to a different agent who may be able to help you."  This agent with State Farm quoted $195/month.
After that my SO decided to call Geico and add my car to his policy. We are now married and have a jetski, one truck, 2 cars, a motorcycle, and renters insurance (my parents own our starter home.)  through Geico. All are full coverage All of that bundled is under $200/month.
We had a claim on our truck (scratched in a parking lot)  and were waiting for the policy to increase. It's stayed the same all last year and this year. We love Geico. They paid for my husbands truck to get rebuilt back to the race truck it is when he got hit head on by someone crossing the yellow line while sitting on the side of the road. The person who hit him didn't have insurance. Geico paid for the truck to get fixed and went after the perosn who hit him to get their money. They didn't put it back to stock they let him pick out all his parts that were already on the truck before the wreck. He even got his custom built headlights back! When he gets a new upgraded part or accessory for his truck we report it to our agent who adds it to the covered items. Hubby even gives the part number LOL
 We love Geico.

Geico!!   We were paying $250 for State Farm and my fiancé had been with them for 11 years.  Switched to Geico for exact same coverage and now paying $160.  State Farm also took a full YEAR to settle our claim where our car was totaled.  I would never recommend them.  I had Geico with my parents and they were good to work with then.  PLUS, the user-friendliness of their websites and phone app are LIGHT YEARS apart.

Geico sucks if you are a claimant. We ended up having our insurance company, State Farm, pay for the repairs and let them go after Geico. We had to pay our deductible but got that back once the claim was settled.

It's really hard to tell heads from tails in this thread! Different strokes...

I'm with Progressive and have been for 10 years. I can agree that they're pricier. However, the speed, thoroughness, and fairness they showed me when taking care of my claim was pretty outstanding. Not sure what will happen next time (I hope not for a while) but I'll stick with them.

I have my house, truck and horse trailer with AAA. A tornado hit our house March 2016 and while it wasn't a total loss, there was significant damage and my horse trailer was thrown into our pond. AAA had an assessor out (along with an agent) the very next day and was extremely helpful and took the time to walk us through everything. They paid out quickly and my policy remains affordable. I am happy with them.

My brother owns an insurance agency. His agency writes policies for several different companies (The Hartford, Central Mutual, etc.). If my premiums go up, he will shop around for a different company. There are always companies who will have better rates for the same coverage.

I'm sure all insurance companies are terrible to claimants lol
The lady who hit my husband head on had Progressive. They told us point blank over the phoine that he shouldn't have been sitting on the side of the road.  He was on his cell phone on his side of the road and she crossed a median lol. He had his flashers on and was in park lol.
Progressive refused to pay even tho the police report said it was the lady's fault.
Every insurance company will fight anyone trying to get their money. That's what they do.
