Location: Oklahoma | Got thrown 5 days ago and x-rays show I have 2 broken ribs. Doctor told me to wait at least a week before riding. We have a little local barrel series starting Monday October 1 and I really want in it. Not running the horse that threw me, BTW. What I want to know is if anyone has run with broken ribs, did you wear a rib belt or tape them or anything? They are broken on my right side. Also, I am 64 years old and these ain't my first broken bones! |

| My sister did. She taped them, but when I broke mine I didn’t tape and while the pain wasn’t bad, the grinding of bone I felt creeped me out too much to make a run. I only rode that one time and then 3 weeks later same thing so I waited 2 more weeks and was good to go |

Location: Oklahoma | Thanks for the info, you guys. Hmmm, since this is just a local jackpot series, I may have to rethink the idea of running in it. |

| Broke some ribs right before the 4th of July run of rodeos this year.... talk about disappointed!
Doctor told me I couldn't compete for two to three months, but I made it back in one. Regular riding pretty much one week in, so long as someone threw the saddle up for me, lol. And ya, I'm ancient! |

My husband broke 7 ribs the last part of June 5 detached breaks & a bruised lung. He rode a horse in 18 days and went back to work (he makes a living riding a horse). They are still really bothering because he never gave them time to heal |

Location: MN | I wouldnt risk running, especially just at a local jackpot type deal. Even taping them, if you get tossed around any, your ribs could punture your lung and then thats a whole different level of hurt! I broke 4 ribs, puntured my lung and liver...very high pain tolerance...I couldnt move for 3 weeks. Be careful! |

| When I broke my ribs I also bruised my heart. I would have rather died than ride a horse, however I wanted to die just trying to breath. You guys are tough as all get wow lol. |

Location: MN | I broke 3 ribs on the back side. Got bucked off a horse. I went back to work after 10 days. I would ace wrap my ribs when I worked. The ribs still bother me at times. |

Location: Canada | I broke my ribs and severely bruised my lung. I did rodeo but I had to do it in a corset so I could sit and someone had to warm up my horse for me because I could barely get through the run nevermind warm up. Looking back the older me would seriously smack the younger me for how stupid that was.
I'd wait until you feel better. Really it's not worth the run. |

| Wow some of you guys are really tough. I have to agree with the majority though. Nothing is worth more than your health. Every time we step near a horse there is the unpredictability of anything happening.
I've had a collapsed lung and it really is a whole different level of pain! When it popped back out I felt like I was being stabbed. I think that may have even hurt even worse than when I broke my ankle.
I hope you have a speedy recovery though! |

Location: Oklahoma | Update: I did work a horse very slowly loping around the barrels a few days ago. It has now been 15 days since I got thrown. While I didn't have any problem just loping, I am not sure I want to try running yet! (Although my runs are mainly at a high lope when I do enter anyway, LOL). |
