I just found out that I’ve likely had a miscarriage. Having never been pregnant before, I’m in uncharted waters. Heck we didn’t even know I was pregnant yet! We had a whole 30 minutes to be excited before being told not to count on it lasting.
My husband and I decided that I’m not riding the next couple days, and he’ll exercise my horse tonight so I might be able to run this weekend. Physically I feel fine and think the major cramping and pain is over, but has anyone else been through this and have experiences to share? I’m in a couple points races this year and would like to keep competing while we wait to try again. It would also be nice to not feel so alone about this.

No words of advice, just a hug, I cannot imagine the roller coaster. Take it easy, listen to the doctor and what your body is telling you.

Having gone through 2 miscarriages, rest assured that you are not alone.

I was not "allowed" to tell anyone about my first by my first husband...there's a reason I have an ex.
For the second one, we had announced our pregnancy, and I chose to not hide how I felt. You do what you are comfortable with, physically and emotionally, but you should never have to feel alone.

Thanks! We haven’t told anyone we had started trying, so we’re kind of still hush hush about this. On the plus side, I’m 2-for-2 dodging our mothers questions about exactly why I ended up in the ER this morning. Politics look out! ??

I have miscarried 3 times before my daughter was born. It is never easy... Hugs to you. And your husband.
Honestly if you are trying I would bring up riding with your doctor. If you are trying to have a baby the best thing you can do is genetic testing, etc and closely work with your doctor while trying to make sure you aren't fighting an uphill battle. Some women need help to conceive and there is NO SHAME in that at all!  Ask your doctor for the testing and if everything looks okay to go then maybe bring up the riding/exercising.  Most doctors will tell you that you should continue to do what you normally do but some doctors think otherwise.
Hugs again to you my friend. You aren't alone. As far as the Mother's go, just tell them you had some stomach pains/discomfort and you just wanted to make sure things were okay. Your business should always remain your business until you BOTH agree to share with them.
Forgot to add: I waited about a week/week and a half after each miscarry to ride again.

I would ask your Doctor, but I'm betting your in great shape and I would at least give your body a weeks rest.

Thanks for the hugs. The husband worked my big horse tonight, got along really well, and I felt good enough to go out and help saddle so he could work everyone who is running this weekend.
Ive got a follow up appointment Friday morning to know for sure about the miscarriage and then I guess I’ll finally have a doctor here. Lol. I stay pretty healthy so in a year and 3 months of living up here, I haven’t found a doctor yet. Asking questions about riding and doing my normal stuff is probably going to be interesting!

I have had two one a few years ago with twins, it was horrible, but long story short once I was feeling like I could physically ride I was. It was a way for me to focus on something else. This second one was just a couple weeks ago. My husband was working for the weekend when I started feeling the cramping. I kept hoping and praying for all my worth that it was just gas. I went to work that Monday and it started for real. I was heart broken. We have been trying for six years. I tried pills and such. And we can’t afford IVF. I didn’t ride for maybe a week but I did go out and spend time with my mare. hugs to you and your husband. Remember go at your pace and if you feel up to then ride.

I'm so sorry to hear all that! My brother and sister-in-law ended up having to do IVF, and a couple of my cousins have struggled as well. Knowing that, I figured we would have issues getting pregnant too.
I figure I'll ride at least a little bit tomorrow if I feel good. If nothing else, it will get me away from people and questions! LOL.

Sorry for your loss! Sending a big cyber hug! I had a miscarriage, and like you, I didn’t even know I was pregnant. It was during the fall and we were right in the middle of gathering so I kept riding, roping, and doing everything. I didn’t take any time off, but I felt fine and didn’t ever feel like I shouldn’t be doing something. I think you should listen to your body and do as much as you feel able to. If you feel fit and ready to ride I’d go for it.

First of all, so sorry for your loss.

I have had one miscarriage - the first time I was pregnant. Those angel babies will always hold a special place in your heart.

I rode the day it started to happen (after I had gone in for a check up, and was told it is not looking good), cleared the fetus that night, and actually went to a barrel race the next day. I had to go. I had to get out of the house. I cried all night and just couldn't stay at home and cry any more.

Horses are my "daily therapy" and they helped me thorugh. Now, it might depend how far along you were/are. I only made it to 7 weeks with mine. Be sure to ask your doctor.

Again, **hugs**

I only made it about 5 weeks. Had some random bleeding that whole time so didn't really think I was pregnant. We were both pretty surprised when the doctor came in and said the blood test was positive for pregnancy. I rode Tuesday evening, pretty sure it all happened yesterday morning, and thought briefly about riding yesterday evening but decided to take it easy. Can't ride tonight due to being stuck at work until 8 p.m., but plan on at least riding my old faithful some tomorrow - hopefully to celebrate him being cleared for full work at his vet check tomorrow.

I just want to say I'm sorry about your miscarriage, I've not had one. I have no advice but I wanted you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers and you are not alone.

I’ve been riding pretty much everyday since the dr gave ok. Until I took a tumble off my mare Saturday at a race. ?? I should have known better to try and change things up at a race. Husband changed the lock to my tack room and won’t give me the keys until Sunday. ?? And I’m not strong enough to use the bolt cutters.

No fun being grounded, but that is funny that he had to lock the tack room. Mine knows that wouldn't stop me....I'd ride bareback with a halter in a pinch lol.

Did your doctor clear you pretty quickly? I go in tomorrow and am hoping to be told I can ride or at least not told that I can't. A $2,500 added race on Saturday and a district NBHA race Sunday are making this a weekend I don't want to miss, and I'm only running one horse so it's not like my "normal" weekends of 4-6 runs in 2 days.
