As far as "barrel bred" studs go, Boxers N Briefs, Firewater Canyon, or Epic Leader.

Slick By Design or Epic LeaderΒ
I'm going to be slow to crawl on the EL band wagon.
He was awesome, but I want to see how his progeny hold up before I jump on.
Note: I'm sure no one cares what or if I am a fan, but this was just for the sake of conversation.

I'm going to agree. He is a nice looking stallion, I just want to see how his foals look, and can handle the barrel pen before breeding
I do drool over his pictures on facebook though!!!! |

The purpose of this fun post is picking an unproven stallion. |

Β Just for continuance of discussion, is there a reason, other than he's young, for the "wait and see"? To me he looks like a pretty sure bet, but I don't know just a whole lot about the Confederate Leaders. |

Location: Texas! | There is a really nice DTF son out here Freckles Ta Fame, I'm really interested in keeping up with him I've watched him be seasoned and from the start of the summer until now he has really come into his own as a GRITTY AS HECK barrel horse! |

Location: God's country | We are breeding to Epic Leader in 2014. He is my dream stallion and I was afraid that if I "wait and see" his stud fee will be higher than we could afford once he gets some on the ground. It was a chance but one we were willing to take. Also, breeding to Slick By Design in 2014 so I guess I felt like gambling in 2014! |

I definitely understand that notion. I would love to breed to Epic, but I too want to wait until he's proven, but I'm sure by that time I won't be able to afford him. |

Hey! You stole my pick, lol!
He won 2nd in the first round of the BFA Futurity and his dam is as tough and gritty as they come. His style is exactly like hers, except I will go out on a limb as say he is faster.
I have no idea what his dam's registered name is. I just know she is Colonel Freckles on the bottem and by FG. The family that owns her has a full sister that their son tie down roped on and she is a super nice mare too. I've seen enough to confidently say that the dam line of Freckles Ta Fame is very prolific when it comes to producing very talented horses. |

I think Firewater Canyon would definitely be one that I would choose even though he isn't proven!!! |

I think for my "fake money" (since this is all hypothetical anyway. I don't breed to outside studs and I don't have a mare that I would breed to either one of them even if I did.) I would go with Boxers over Canyon. MY reasoning is that his fee is $1000 cheaper! Granted, it is frozen semen only as he is going to be in barrel training, where as last I read, they have no intentions of ever trying to prove Canyon as a performer. If I were going to spend $2500 on a stud fee, I would go probably with a horse that is already proven. Either as a preformer and/or prodoucer. |
