What do you all use for joint supplements with a horse that has no current problems. And, one that is affordable?! What are the differences between MSM, glucosamine, and all the others...there are soooo many!

Platinum is actually affordable when you break it down by day. So is Silver Lining Herbs. And I have had good luck with both

Actiflex Powder is what I feed.

My mom feeds Actiflex Powder Senior to her mare.

We feed the powder instead of the original ActiFlex 4000 liquid because we don't want to deal with taking it back and forth from the house in the winter when it freezes

My sister, who is in pharmacy school, recommends the injectable or feeding amino acid supplements which are the bases of things like glucosamine. This is because any feed through will be broken down into these amino acids in the gut anyway. That's his they help and the amino acids are usually cheaper. She says the injectable is the most effective though.

It's a powder that you top dress over grain. I have a banner ad floating around here somewhere, if you click on it you can find prices and order info and a bit about the supplements themselves.

Acti Flex 4000.  I have had several vets recommend it.  Big Dee's is the best place I have found to buy it.  If you buy a gallon you get a quart free.

I am not sure if others have found this with the Acti Flex but it also seems to pump one up a little bit.   Both my mare and a friends gelding who tend to be pretty lazy were peppier after using this.  I think they also have a vet strength you can get through a vet if you have a horse with issues.   My mare doesn't act sore but is older so figured it would be good to have her on one.

Agree

A less expensive injectable I like is Pentosan compounded with Acetyl-d-glucosamine (aka Pentosan Gold).
