Location: Phoenix | I really like my shoer. He takes his time, really analyzes the foot, continues his education. But he is SO unreliable. This morning, 730 appt and he shows up at 930. Last summer, supposed to do my horse at 10, but he shows up at 2 and by this time it's 117 degrees out. Not to mention he had me waiting in that weather! I set aside time in MY schedule and it's very inconsiderate to postpone postpone postpone!!!
It's just so hard to find a shoer that doesn't just do the same shoe job on every horse. And my horse isn't hard to shoe--he's a gentleman. I know I'm not the only one!!

Do we have the same guy?! Lol! You aren't the only one... after excessive flakiness, I had someone else out and he did a horrible job! Finally got my original guy back and he's being a lot better now about showing up and keeping our appointments. |

| At least yours shows up. My ex-farrier would just not show up. If you called to see if he was coming he usually wouldn't answer. Missing a day of work plus hauling an hour one way to a friend's place to get your horse done - NOT COOL! |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Since you really like your shoer I would have a heart to heart talk with him, he shows up but not at the time he sets. So I would ask him when hes running late to please text you or call and let you know that hes running behind so you dont just sit around waiting on him.. My farrier if hes running late he'll call me.. But a good farrier is hard to find so I would just talk with your farrier about this problem. |

I think thats pretty much the norm everywhere now adays paying 150.00, I pulled all the horses shoes and just keep them all trim now for the past 2 years. |

I usually have him text me when he's at a certain point on his commute so I can gauge when to leave to meet him.
I won't fire him YET. I'll make sure we set a reasonable time for the next appointment. |

| I have to find a new shoer now too and am not looking forward to it. My husband does all of ours but he got hurt at work and might have to have back surgery so he is down for now and maybe for good. I trim as many as I can myself but I am not good enough to put shoes on anyone. Thank god it isn't $150 to get shoes here. |

Tell him how your feeling about him being late and how it really bothers you that he wont call and let you know that hes running behind. |

| I started scheduling our trimmer in the afternoon. It is far easier for me to go into work until a certain time and be home than it is for me to be ready for him in the morning and end up blowing a whole day because he's late. My vacation time is too precious |

I was thinking the same thing about how glad I am for my farrier. . . He sets us up for the next visit before he leaves the current one, and always texts when he leaves the town that's about 30 min from us so we know he's almost to the barn. |

Same, I got lucky when I moved to AZ for the winter to find a fantastic guy. Usually on time or would text me if he was running late. Had a bent shoe on Sunday night, was leaving to visit family Monday morning for two days, and had a barrel race Wednesday. Said I didn't need to be there and would be out the next morning. Not many farriers (especially ones you've only used a few times) that would do that.
OP I hope you figure it out, I feel your pain because I don't know what I'm going to do for a farrier when I go home in a month! |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | My Farrier would set appointments with me and text or call when he was going to be late. The times he was late is because a certain owner would make an appointment for one set of shoes and end up asking for two or three sets once the farrier was there...
Maybe it isn't his fault that he's late... Glad to see you will be having a "Come to Jesus" meeting with him.  |

Location: Gainesville, TX | Most farriers, even lots of good ones, struggle with this it seems. Glad my husband works from home and is usually around. But we haul to one farrier because he is very good. It is not unusual for him to be an hour late or more. He does usually text us though to let us know when he is headed that way or running behind. Generally its because they had a horse who was really difficult or someone who asks them to do more than they originally requested. |

Location: Texas | We have one that we haul to the vet clinic to let the farriers that are there 2 days a week to shoe our problem child. For the others, we have a guy that comes out to trim only. He is usually right on time. If he tells you 10:00, he is there at 10:00. I have everything penned and ready for him. His last visit he was about 30 minutes late but it was due to his previous appointment not catching her precious baby until he got there knowing it was going to be problem and he would help. I am retired so I can cut him some slack. |

Location: LA Lower Alabama | I find that this is an issue with the job. Not only are they working with owners but they are also working with live animals. I wouldn't be surprised if he was late due to others mistakes/issues. |

Location: Heart of Texas | Sooo glad I'm not in your shoes anymore. I used to go thru farrier after farrier b/c they would just drop off the planet. I have the most amazing farrier now. Had him 5 years, he catches my horses if they're loose, resets thrown shoes for free. $75 for shoes too!!He just comes and goes now on his own. I leave a check and he's golden. best relationship I've had in years lol But I completely empathize. Wish you were in my area, I'd refer him. |
