| First time to Texas and I picked Austin for 6 days Mar 21-26. Besides taking in the Rodeo I would like to get out of the city and visit a few smaller towns, any suggestions would be appreciated. I saw a picture on Pinterest of the Oasis restaurant on Lake Travis that looked fabulous! Are there any major tack stores, Ranch tours or barrel races going on near Austin? |

Location: Not Where I Want to Be | Austin is a cool town, spread your wings and get out your comfort zone. Ditch the quest for tack stroes and barrel races and experience Austin
The Oasis is cool, sort ot touristy but cool. Check out the live music scene in austin, 6th st. the continental club etc.
There are upteen dozen awesome restraurnts in Austin,
Take a day and do a Central TExas bbq tour, Opies, Salt lick, Iron Works, Blacks, Kruez all easy drive from austin.
Take walk thru the 40 acres
Tons of stuff, |

Fredricksburg has something going on every weekend. great shopping. Cool place. San Marcos is wonderful too and the little town Greune is neat as well. As far as Austin goes I think the Capital is a must--beautiful. The University of Texas is neat but unless you know where you are going I guess it could be confusing. I go to educational stuff there all the time so I am usually sent in a certain direction
Forgot to mention that at Greune, there is a real Texas Dance Hall. Family oriented.

| I've always wanted to go to Austin City Limits! You should check out their schedule and see if you can get tickets to a concert! |

| I am sure there are some ranch tours and you might look into touring LBJ Ranch. President Lyndon Johnson's ranch. Have been past it a million times but never stopped. Get you one of these--they are free.

| Thank you all you beautiful people. You are a blessing to this 50++ lady who is going on a long overdue adventure. I live on the very west coast of Canada and I've wanted to go to Texas since Urban Cowboy lol. Life happened and here I am fulfilling a promise to see Texas so you cannot believe how excited I am. |

Location: Idaho | Make sure to check out 6th street in Downtown! There is also, I think its called the Weird Museum? You can see all sorts of neat stuff! Fredericksburg is a really neat place too!! They have a small store on main street that makes their own jams and jellies, and people come from miles around to go there!!
They have the Teskey's saddle shop in Weatherford. I've always wanted to go, it's a two story tack shop and it look absolutely amazing! You can also see the State Capitol and as another mentioned the history museum. I went to a museum down town, it had a big Texas star out front but it was really neat! |

| Thank you all for the responses. 1DSoon hit the nail right on the head I need to get out of my comfort zone and spread my wings. I've already looked at the BBQ tours but having a hard time finding like a bus filled with adventurers mostly I found self guided tours. Hopefully I get that figured out. Definitely going to San Antonio just to say I did lol and see the River walk. I'm telling everyone here I'm not coming back haha. I'll let you all know how I make out?? |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Not sure but let me know what you all think. My husband hauled down some of the bucking stock for it. He is flying back down to get them and haul them back to WY. I'll give him some ideas of things to do while he is there. |

Location: Central Texas | All good suggestions! A neat little town is Boerne (pronounced Bernie) and it's a less touristy and crowded town than Fredricksburg. Charmayne and George Strait live (lived?) there! Great time of year to see the bluebonnets so take a hill country drive--ask the locals and they will tell you the best viewing spots. Be careful if you go to 6th street as it's attracting more and more thugs.
Some Austin spots--go to the Broken Spoke on South Lamar. It's an old time honky-tonk and they offer dance lessons. Eat a chicken-fried steak there or good Tex-Mex at Matt's Rancho a few doors down. Great BBQ in Austin is Stiles Switch on North Lamar. One of the owners worked for Louie Mueller in Taylor, TX a famed BBQ joint. They all have good websites. Welcome :)
