Is there a way to look up HYPP status on a horse? I'm looking at a mare that is bred very nice but her dam's dam is by a son of Impressive. I'm not sure exactly how it all works with HYPP so wanted to see if you could look up the status on the stallion or mare or what?

If she's a younger horse, it should be noted on her papers. I thought, if they were y/y AQHA would not register them.

I would call AQHA and ask them what the HYPP status is of Ricks Countess and Impressive Rick.

I just called AQHA. They don't have the HYPP status for Countess Feature, Ricks Countess or Impressive Rick. She said they didn't start requiring it until 1997  and they were registered before that.

Did you ask the owner of the horse you're looking at what her HYPP status is? Otherwise, you would probably want to call APHA and ask them if they have it on file.

The APHA won't have it or any other test results on file. They decided not to bother with HYPP results because "it's a Quarter Horse problem."

I've been meaning to call them and ask what their position on the 5 panel testing is going to be.

I assume Google didn't know the answer on the Impressive Rick horse?

In looking further, AQHA registered Docs Leo Countess in 1998. (I'm thinking out loud here so correct me if I get this wrong) So if AQHA registered her full sister in 98 then she evidently passed the HYPP test. In at least some form. Correct???? So it would stand to "reason" if one did the other would????????

Not exactly.  One horse may win the genetic lotto and not get the gene if a parent is positive for it.  The next, even a full sibiling, might not be so lucky.

+1 -- so true on it not being on the papers

BringingLighttoHYPP used to have a list of horses and their status on their website but I can't find it since the update.  Here is the link though for more information:  http://www.bringinglighttohypp.org/
