For me personally I'd take a FG.  I seem to get along better with those lines.  I know its another generation off but my daughter has a gdaughter of FDD.  I hate that mare.  We have tough winters here and no place to ride so every spring its the same fight.  It was 30's and 40's here the past couple days so we tried to get horses rode that hadn't been touched since November.  Every other horse we ride was fine but the FDD was an idiot.  If I knew how to use a gun that horse might be belly up.

I have never rode a frenchmans guy, but i would vote for a frenchmans guy unless you need a lot of run. I have also never rode a dash to fame, i know he has produced a lot of money winners and they can run, but on the negative side i would say if you need more bone he would not be your man, i have heard that they can be a little hot headed to ride. But for a good quiet using barrel, roping, working type horse frenchmans guy or,firewater flit. If you need run dash to,fame would be your man. also, are you breeding your horse or looking for a horse with those bloodlines or are you going to breed if so what are the bloodlines of what you would be breeding and size of your broodmare and what kind of bone does your mare have also, what kind of temperment and howmwould you be using said baby or,horse.

No plans on breeding. I always find it interesting why people like the bloodlines they like and why they like them. I do prefer more bone on a horse, but would never be a deal breaker.

I'd pick one that had both because I've ridden both and love them!
I actually have a daughter of Frenchmans Guy out of a daughter of Dash Ta Fame, that is a 4 year old.  I love her!  Getting her ready for futurities for next year as I think she could use to grow up another year.

I also have a daughter of Dash Ta Fame out of a daughter of Frenchmans Guy.  She is just 2 this year, so I will be sending her out to be started under saddle later in the year.

I also have a filly by our son of Frenchmans Guy out of the Dash Ta Fame daughter that did really well for me in the 2012 futurities that's a yearling this spring.  I am excited about her as well!

I would take the DTF, FG needs DTF for a winner but DTF does not need FG.

I have ridden 3 different FDD grand babies, and have never had any problems wi their attitude or work ethic. I have left for winter and jumped back on. I would look at what the other side has to offer.

Personally I wouldn't buy another frenchmans guy grand baby, mine very immature, it has taken him 7 years to grow up.

I have also heard of many more counterfeit frenchmans guy then dash ta fame.

Personally I would rather have a firewater flit, as they seem to excel in both futurity and rodeo atmospheres.

tebar - 2014-02-21 10:11 AM I would take the DTF, FG needs DTF for a winner but DTF does not need FG.

Of the top ten earning frenchmans guy offspring only 1 has dtf in her pedigree.  And of the top ten earning DTF's only 1 has fg in her pedigree. So I think that makes a tie!

The original post was about grandget of both dtf and fg.  Because they were both great producers people thought that if it has balls it should be bred.  There are several sons of both standing at stud that probably should not be. So my opinion is that it depends on which son of dtf and fg the foal is by.

There are SO MANY sons of First Down Dash I wouldn't even compare grand get of first down dash. You may just have a bad apple. I had a granddaughter of FG who was a bad apple and it didn't scare me away from getting more. I don't look for the particular son of FG she was by, but I look at others. And honestly, if I saw a nice baby by her sire, I wouldn't automatically write it off.
I have a grand get of FG due April 14, and a grand get of DTF due April 16! I love both bloodlines and wouldn't turn an own son or daughter of either away :P

It would depend which son of FG or DTF. Since their sires were so popular a lot were left stallions and breed that probably shouldn't. It would depend on which son and how the mare is bred. IMO the question is too broad considering how many sons of FG and DTF there are out there.
