Location: Oklahoma | Whats the oddest thing someone has offered to trade you for your horse? I know there are some odd people out there, and sometimes the craigslist buyers venture over, lol. Someone asked if I'd be interested in tradeing a horse, and just for the sake of humering I asked what they were wanting to trade...I got offered a wild untouched six year old, an old cow, and what I can only assume is the entire contents of their garage.....I just had to pass on that one  |

When we are selling a horse, we put in our ad that no trades our welcome. Just because 99% of the time, it's a waste. |

| We did get incredibly lucky on a trade once. When I was in high school, Mom had a quite, broke broodmare listed for sale online and was contacted by a couple from Oklahoma wondering if we would be interested in a trade. Almost said no, but we were in the market for a horse for me to queen on since we had just sold the gelding I used in my first few contests, so she asked what they had. They had a sorrel tobiano APHA mare who their daughter had shown in reining before she decided to turn her attention more to school. We swapped videos and decided to meet in the middle in York, NE to exchange the horses. The first few weeks and my first contest with Lace were pretty rough, and for a while we wondered what we got ourselves into...but once we clicked, did we ever click! That little mare won me the horsemanship award at SDHSRA finals both years I competed, was top 5 in horsemanship at the NHSRA finals both years, won horsemanship at the SD 4-H Rodeo finals...she was absolutely one of the most phenomenal horses I've had the pleasure to own and ride. |

| Worst trade offer: a lawnmower that did not run and a rusty two horse straight-load bp trailer with 3 flat tires.
Best trade ever: an evil mini horse that I traded for a gorgeous buckskin tobiano mare that is an awesome kids horse.

me: yeah thats not happening.
person: ok $1000.00 cash is my final offer and i can pick him up now or in the morning. i live in burr :
me: I am sorry there is NO way I will take $1000 for a $4500 horse.
person: i'll tell you what!! after a coupleof years if he pans out i'll pay you the difference then? Now thats a good deal!!!!

Oddest. I had a crappy grade filly that I bought for $100 bc one of the girls that I teach wanted a colt to start one summer. She started her and we got traded $$ + Goats. I made more money on those silly goats! Lol. Nothing can top the sock monkeys though that sounded like a heck of a deal LOL!!!! |

She had found another person in this area who had exactly what she wanted. I called the lady with the saddle and offered to trade her a huge gold and diamond horseshoe slide to help my friend out, and the saddle lady did NOT go for it. Her LOSS! It had one dozen quarter carat very good diamonds totaling 3 carats worth about 3000$ and 675$ worth of gold in it.
We are the barter kings around here. My friends have traded motorcycles, cars, jewelry, boats, guns, even CHICKENS for horses. |
