and how have you seen them done?

Not so much the person completing the exhibition but how the producer does them.
In Florida many places just give you a ticket and you give it to the person at the gate
and you do your exhibition with no time given.
You can however buy a time only exhibition after the jackpot.

Originally coming from Oklahoma (prior 2004) you signed up and you got a time.
They worked with you and there was somewhat an order but either way you
got your exhibition done and a time.

The reason I ask is I have started putting on jackpots at a local arena and we do it
so that you go at a certain "time". So you have a list and it starts at for example
11:00
11:01
11:02
etc....

And when I originally polled people in the area they said "oh yeah!!!" we like it!
Then once we started people complain.

So I am looking to know how other people across the masses have seen exhibitions done.

I'm on the AL/FL line, all the local shows in this area just kinda leave people to fend for themselves during exhibitions. Some do tickets, some don't even bother with those. We kinda form a line ourselves and just go as one person finishes. Times aren't called. It's really not organized. Just enough to get in the pen to work your horse.

My personal favorite is the ticketing system, but I don't see it done much and I can see where holes would be in the system.

Mostly around here (Oklahoma) it's you go and sign up either on a first come, first serve basis or you can tell them approximately when you'd like to go once you arrive or you can sometimes text them in (love this option if I'm going to be hauling a good ways).  There are also some who leave the exhibition sheets out and you sign up where you want to be.

I can see where problems could arise out of the 11:00 11:01 11:02, etc. formula.  My exhibitions never take more than maybe 45 seconds and it's a waste of time to make people wait to start the 11:01 slot.. or if someone has trouble in the alley and feeds over into 11:02.  I like the idea behind it.  It's much nicer than "Oh, you should be up sometime between 6:30 & 6:45", but I can see how people would complain.

I love the ticket system, but I think it moves much slower because you aren't moving horses along as quickly. I have commonly seen here is a sign up sheet with a big numbered list, you can put your name down in whatever order you want. and usually you can change with people in the warm up pen if needed.
There is also the random draw, which I don't like. I want to exhibition in the order I want my horses so random draws can throw off my preparations.
I have seen some races that have you pay at the gate which seems a little complicated because someone always needs change or your horses don't want to stand there.

I would get frustrated with the certain times for each other. It sounds good in theory but then you have the one horse that takes a few minutes to get in and throws the time off for everyone else, or you could be moving through more horses but you have to wait for the next minute because someone isn't ready. or their posted time is ahead of them.

Hate tickets.  One trainer would bring two trailers and have her help keep them up at the front of the line.  No one else could exhibition until she was finished unless you were her dear friend.  She would take at least 2 hours.  I think it is more effecient to have a time down like you mentioned so that everyone knows what time to be ready.  The shows that I worked at did it this way and we never had any complaints.

Seen a few different ways. We done just the raffle ticket system, go whenever and hand the gate person your ticket. We have the numbered ticket system, gate person calls out the next 10 numbers, you go in that order. And at the big supershows lately they do the hour slot, name down on a list between certain times and they highlight them off at the gate as you go.

I personally like the raffle ticket system so you can go when you're ready, but then you have the people that wait til the end and then want to do their time onlys when they want to get the race started

Around these parts (ND) we have time slots and exhibitions.

Time slots are usually 10-15 minute increments of time where 10 girls have access to the pattern.

Exhibitions are individual tickets sold. Most around here declare forward motion only, no stopping or excessive circling around the barrel. Some put a 45 sec to a minute time limit on it. Some sell a set number of tickets and then give the ticket holders a set time to complete their exhibitions such as an hour or two depending on how many tickets are sold. Usually they'll sell 60 tickets and give the ticket holders an hour. If you don't get in and use it your out of luck.

I live in FL and I really dislike the ticket system and I hate it when you are going through the pattern and someone comes up behind up. We train/haul young ones and it's really hard to get one started down here! I wish it would change down here but I dont think people down here adapt well to change. I hope to move from FL one day hopefully soon!

I don't know how the time thing would work but I like the idea of having an order to it. Maybe signing up in a list. I have been at some jackpots where it was super tight (indoors) and everyone was smashed by the gate to exhibition and it was so hard to see any kind of order

I hate tickets.  I don't want to have to stand in line forever, and I've had trouble in some places where people who know each other decide the order on their own, regardless of who else is waiting, and rudely cut in front of you.  Burns my butt to be treated that way.

I prefer a sign up sheet--call your name and give you a time.  You can sign up in whatever slots that are open that work for you. Times are useful when you're hauling young horses.  Plus, it's good for little ones when you're using an exhibition as their "barrel run", they still get their name called, a time, so they feel big.

I HATE the ticket system. When I lived in FL that drove me crazy. Around here most people sign up on a sheet. The sheets are 30 minute time intervals and they usually run 30 to 45 in that time. Most places request you keep it below 60 seconds. It works good for me. At bigger jackpots you better show up early to get some exhibitions though.

At our local NBHA shows, there is a sign-up sheet for exhibitions. Typically, they are an hour before the jackpot starts. If you plan on 60 seconds/exhibition then you would have room for 60 exhibitions. First come first serve on sign up. We don't usually have a problem with people not able to exhibition. If you have a huge number of them though you could start two hours to jackpot. If they go over their 60 seconds, have them pay for another exhibition.

It is nearly impossible these days to get a young horse ready. Back in the day the barrels were up and u could go early and stay late to work your colt. Now they hide the barrels until exhibition time. I personally cannot afford to exhibition for a year. I do my best at home and a couple exhibitions here and there. I know arenas cost money but i guess im frustrated. In my area whT seems to work the best is writing ur name on a list, that way u can keep moving ur horse instead of standing i line with a ticket.

In Nevada, We pay at the gate. Some races you can take as long as you want. At bigger ones, they will allow 60 seconds. They will get on ya if you are taking your sweet time. Not a fan of sign up sheets for 2 reasons. 1) If the time onlys dont start on time then it throws everything off. 2) I typically dont carry a watch or phone while warming up, so I have to constantly ask someone. The raffle ticket isnt bad either but there's more steps involved. There is one thing that drives me crazy..... If time onlys go from 8am to 10am...... everyone starts piling in around 9:30 to get in the arena. The race can be delayed by an hour!

In Alberta it varies from jackpot to jackpot. A lot of the local races the barrels are set off the markers before it starts and people just form a line then go one at a time through the pattern, all the while everyone is trying to warm up around the pattern. It is really distracting for a younger horse. Then you can pay $5 for an exhibition which run after the jackpot is done, but its nice to be able to go around the pattern without 20 or more horses milling about in the arena with you. Most places will announce your time. When you go at the end of the jackpot it can make for a late night, and it is a really long wait. The first exhibition I did this year with my colt we had to wait for about 20 youth and 100 open to go then we were 6th exhibition out. It was 10 PM and the arena doesn't have any lights so we made our run in the dark. Luckily 2 of the barrels had white on them so I could kind of see them.
At some of the bigger jackpots you pay $3-$5 for anywhere between 1-3 minutes in the arena. Some time onlys are first come first serve and others you have to book in advance. I've been to one jackpot where you paid $3 for 2 tickets and each ticket was good for one time around the pattern. The tickets weren't numbered so you just had to stand in line then hand the tickets off at the gate. Those places don't announce a time.

I've seen tickets and sign up sheets. Personally I prefer the ticket method because you can go whenever you're ready, no waiting or rushing.

It depends on the situation. i have done tickets, signup with names being called and open arena with $5 exhibitions or $20 as many as you want. That works great because  the people there are very courteous. not many are really making a run, but if someone wants to; I have seen everyone just stay out of the way nicely. Once I think we exited so she could make her run. then everyone went back in and went back to buisness. I like this way because it takes the nerves out of the situation and is great for nervous or young horses. It works for the small local jackpots and because the people are so nice there. clearly this would not work well for bigger races.

Tickets work good if there is a limit to the number of tickets one person get.  But what is to stop one person to by all they can and then have one or two friends(that aren't exh) also buy their allotment of tickes.  Before long, those people standing in line to buy tickets get up to the desk and find all the tickets are sold out.
I like to sign up. you know what number your exh is, and you have a 60 second time limit.  Fine assessed if you go over the time limit.

We do warm ups prior to the race with the barrels off the stakes and no times. We sell tickets and take cash at the gate. We sell the tickets mostly for people who are writing one big check for the day or want to get then bought so they don't have to fiddle wth cash at the gate, buying them for youths etc.

Expos are entered like you would enter the open race and done at the end with the barrels on the stakes and a time given.

Some of the bigger races I've entered you could buy warm ups in advance and then they would sell a limited # at the race. It gave them a better idea of when they needed to start warm ups to start the race on time. I don't do many warm ups anymore so it's annoying when I arrange to be there on time for the start of the race and there's an hours worth of warm ups left because they didn't realize there would be a huge demand.
