They are stalking me! I have had to kill 3 of them out in the pasture just this month all within a mile stretch and all just off the trail. Can you imagine how many are still out there waiting for me?

ok ... no really, find the den and you can tackle the problem from there. No need to light the whole prairie on fire ..... (just yet)

The pasture in question is several sections so I don't know if I can find a den. They have all been those aggressive little Mojave jerks. Luckily they have all buzzed and let me know they were there.

I would defiantly find the den and check every hole. You can gas them or drown them if you find it or just get a big gun and start shooting.

Had one between my arena and the fence line one late evening it was under a mesquite bush and I could hear it every time I rode in that area but could not see it but I could see the top of its tail when it would buzz, the dogs were on watch and my gelding knew it was there, by the time I went to go get hubby and gun it was getting to dark to look for it, but I have my fair share of Rattlers and Cooperheads.

In the early hours of the day watch for hawks, if you see them in a certian area go check out the location. The snakes fall prey to our red tails pretty often. I've been doing lots of walking (in my snakeboots) the last few weeks and have found several caves. Thankfully, none have been a part of a pit. As I was showing my husband my newest find last Thursday (and we were marking it so he wouldn't fall in with his Bobcat) he asked me what are you doing in this thick brush without your handgun...I told him I was like a kid that morning I wandered off from the Ranger and got lost in my exploring. I heard several large "somethings" busting thru the brush I can only assume it was hogs or large exotics. I will not wander without a handpiece on Wednesday!

We have a large pit at the front of our small ranch. We've tried smoking the snakes from the location but have learned to just leave them there and respect that location.

Find the den and use some smoke,,,

I don't believe relocating herself to a place next to the den and firing up a bad one is a good idea..

I saw this same article yesterday. BTW, I looked the Mojaves up on wiki and the article said that Crofab does work on Mojave bites, not that I want to find out. My sister got bit by a rock rattler last year and had to have about $80,000 worth of anti-venom, yipes, good thing for insurance!

Now thats scary, I get the King, Rat snakes, but so far so good not one on the front porch, now in the yard yep. So was he trying to track it with the spot light,or did he see the snake with the porch light? Are could he tell the size of the snake with the buzzing it was doing?  LOL... Just wondering since you say spot light was not working,

I won't post a picture of the timber rattler my husband killed today by the house.  This is the second one within 50 feet of the house.  Plus, we have had two mocassins - one 15 feet from front porch and the other 50 feet away.  This year has been horrible with the heat and no water.  They are coming up to where the water troughs are.

I hate to kill a snake - but when the bad ones get close to the house, I have to have them gone.  We have a rat snake and an oak runner that come and visit our feed room and back patio.  Those get to stay.

Yepp I like the good snakes, I do move them to the back of Andy's shope sometimes, not all the time but just sometimes, now the bad snakes have got to go.

He said he could tell somewhat where it was because the dog kept barking in that direction. He had to plug the spotlight in a few times to actually use it enough to see it (sad I know, but spotlight is fully charged now)....he shot it with a .22 and that is how he know how big it was. He put it in a bucket....I can get a picture of it if you want to see it. As far as snakes go, I am not a snake person...

Glad that he got it, so at least you will not be worried as to where it went..
I have two spotlights, one at the front door and the back door and fully charged, the dogs are always barking at something, but most of the time its deer coming to close to the house are darn coyotes looking for an easy meal..
