Getting ready to redo the flooring in our mud room, kitchen, and bathrooms.  Heavy traffic areas, with lots of dirt and dogs.  What is the most durable type of flooring for areas like this, in a modular home, something that will hold up, is easy to clean, and doesn't show every little mark?  Would love to do the concrete floors, but that is not an option.

Tile is good but can be expensive, I've had great luck with dark-marble tile look laminate.  That stuff can be filthy dirty and look great!

We are getting ready to do a major over haul of our house. We were told over and over again for the very same traffic and dogs, kids, mud, water ect. Laminate! It's beautiful, looks like hardwood but takes the beating and holds up continueing to look great. I dont think you will like tile. The tiles break, crack ect. and the grout has it's own seperate issues.

I would do the best tile.  You can replace any bad places with less expense than if it were laminate.

Laminate that looks like wood can be a PITA to keep clean-have several family members that have it and it is streaky all the time (I have it in a section of the hourse and it sucks to keep clean) the tile look we put in our entry/kitchen/bathroom is amazing.  So look around at friends/neighbors before you completely decide.

edited to add:  I put the best pad under the laminate I could buy and it sure made a difference in comfort and sound of the laminate.

Is the vinyl sheet flooring the stuff that is thick and isn't glued?  if so, we put that in 2 bathrooms and it is awesome!  I'm not really sure how you would seam it if you have a large continuous space but it is tough, easy to clean and very comfy.....apparantly we've done a lot of remodeling lately-would you like to talk carpeting??  Basement carpet was installed this past weekend

If they are having streaking problems they should look into the Norwex Mops. They are expensive but work awesome!

Im not near as impressed with laminate as others seem to be. My folks put in about 8 years ago, my mom has never liked it. They let their dogs live in the house, so it gets a lot of wear, she cant wait to put carpet down.
I just built a house, I decided to go with luxury vinyl tile in mudroom and all bathrooms. So far I really like it. Depending on the color, dirt is hardly visible which I haven't decided that this is a good thing, just because it doesn't get cleaned as often as it should. This flooring can either be grouted or put together with no grout. I wanted a no maintenance floor so I went without. It looks like ceramic tile, but is much do like the look of it though.

Laminate can't take the wet. The planks peel when they get wet. If I wanted indestructable, I'd do ceramic tile.

#1 Modular homes most likely need reinforce floors added to have tile installed which adds mucho $$ to the cost-if you're putting flooring over concrete then absolutely put tile down-it is my favorite.
#2 Installers know how to protect laminate against the wet if it is necessary.  We have it in our entry and our kids bathroom (aka water logged land) and there is no peeling after 3 years.
#3 Laminate today is much nicer and better made than laminate made 8 years ago
#4  There is a vinyl interlocking tile that I saw somewhere that I opted not to try but I do think that would be worth a look at too.
#5 Duraceramic looks like tile but can be put down with or without grout-it was all the rage not too long ago and while it looks good-I have some family members with it and it is not as durable as once thought, also it KILLS my feet-even with shoes on all the time.

I am by no means an expert but have done A LOT of remodels and A LOT of the work myself- and I live in a modular home and on a budget.  I have dealt with a lot of people that thought they HATED my laminate floor-my mother included-and she loves it (along with all the others)
Honestly I prefer ceramic tile-easiest to keep clean vacuum and wipe with wet paper towel easy. but REALLY time consuming to install or else it costs a mint and I don't think it's terribly pet friendly.
OP make sure you take before and after photos of your place and post here-I'm always interested to see how peoples opinions differ-never know-might find my next favorite flooring!

This is a great all around floor. Waterproof as well. I own a flooring store and this type of floor accounts for almost 50% of our sales.

We put this in at work in a high traffic area and it scratched a lot within weeks... and we hate it, super hard to keep clean.

Ceramic is only painted on top... for tile you pay more for porcelain but you can get them with the color through the entire tile so if they chip it doesn't show as bad. I did the same search earlier this spring for my place and decided on tiles. The reinforcing wasn't that bad and it ended up being cheaper then the laminate/vinyl I had priced out too.
