Why does there always have to be an audience hanging on those fences when these girls come home?  Good god, I'd flip.  Then, I guess there's a reason, but right after Carley and Radio ran, the next girl had a dude stand and wave his arms.  I'm sure its supposed to help, but  I'd be on my ass and my horse would be running back to Tucson.

I think someone said that the alleyway is not very long, and right outside of the alleyway is a pavement parking lot. Probably trying to get them to shut down a lot faster. I'm betting rodeo horses are used to the hands waving action.

I believe its so the horses don't try to run the other way, some of them come in so hot, it wouldn't surprise me if one has before.

Oh I misunderstood the question, I thought you meant at the beginning of the run. But ya, it's because the alley isn't very long and it's been several times horses have just hit the end of it and hit the gates.

LOL...he was right in the line of fire.  I almost had a stroke.  I wish they could find a better venue in Vegas.

Are you talking about the man standing in the ally halfway down it, if so he does this to all the horses coming out of the arena I'm thinking hes at the halfway mark and just letting the girls know when to really start slowing down.

Exactly.

People waving at you as you come out is actually pretty common at rodeos, especially ones where you don't have a lot of stopping distance. I know when we have a URA/MRCA/IRA rodeo at the American Royal over New Year's there is always someone at the back of the alley waving their arms to help us get stopped. I about ran him over a few years ago when they left half the gate open, but thankfully last year they shut the gate completely before we got off the dirt.

I've been at the bigger 4D's where the gate man will wave at the horses to get them to stop. Doesn't always work lol.

Step out in front of my rodeo horse...it won't bother him but you're probably gonna be sore in the morning lol.
He's the type that in the warmup pen, all of the above bothers him. When he points to the alley, it's game on. I've had people just step out in the alley before, and I just yell at them, he's not a crazy uncontrollable horse, but when he breaks for the first, he sees nothing else. Zoned in! I laugh because he spooks at everything during the grand entry, but I swear there could be dancing clowns and elephants during his run and he wouldn't notice haha.
I'm sure those horses are similar. If you notice the guy flapping his arm achieves nothing. They ignore him lol

Hes not standing in the middle of the alley hes off to the side and just letting the girls know that they are getting close to the end of the alley, I dont think hes trying to stop them hes just a warning..

I've rodeoed for years and years...nothing surprises me....if you've rodeoed a lot, your horse has seen it all and does their job regardless of the people in the way, umbrellas at the 1st barrel, bullriders jumping off the fence in front of you, baby strollers meandering across the end of the alley (yes, that happened to me), ferris wheels 10' behind the 3rd barrel, fireworks, you name it, I guarantee they can deal with it....that's a huge difference between rodeo horses and jackpot horses...

Everytime I see Taylor Jacob hit the alley on the way out I think of that shot of her the last time she was at the NFR near the end of the alley.  When she was reaming on his mouth to get him to stop.  It might not be fair and I am sure she is a nice gal but that is what I think of everytime I see her ride.

I would do the same thing to protect myself, the people on the ground, and my horse!! If you watch the last rounds, everyone's horses get stronger and stronger, they begin to get harder and harder to shut down....

We grew up with Taylor and that is the one and only time I have seen her be harsh with a horse.   They tried one of mine years ago and I had not a second thought letting her take him for a couple of weeks.   Her mom is a great person and brought Taylor up right.

I think it's that kind of situation where the horse isn't reacting correctly and you either have to be forceful to get them to stop or let them run full speed on to concrete and who knows what else. I'd rather do whatever it takes to get them stopped than run the risk of losing my horse because I was worried about what the spectators at the rodeo thought.. Just my opinion.

when you have one that will hit a gate.. I'd rather saw on their mouth a little then the horse or anyone get hurt.
