| I am usually the one to reply to joint support threads, not start them, but I am stumped....... I bought a colt who will be 3 this year (June). Started cutter, really broke ( You can cut buffalo without a bridle  ) But he has a lot of growing to do!! He was not started hard and campaigned on, kind of a natural and loves to do it but for him to be this young and broke as he is, some work had to get him there and I am REALLY wanting to support those joints!!! He is in a gangly stage where he has big bone, big knees, you can tell he is going to top out to be 1100-1200 pounds based on his frame and the way he is going. My very first thought was start with a series of Adequan and not mess with anything else. Vet said " It wouldnt hurt" but did not think it was necessary until I started his barrel training. I plan to not even start barrel training for a YEAR..... I think he is the type that will take to it EXTREMELY quickly and I want his little-er body to just rest from all he has had done.
OK, enough babbling, I was thinking platinum CJ ( Pretty spendy) , adequan, OR Actiflex 4000 for the next year. I have had good results with it and its affordable.

| I have ALWAYS been a PLAN AHEAD type of dude. lol My worst night mare would be having to do lots of vet work for the joints when he is say a 10 year old and have my vet say " Well, had you done X,Y,Z when he was younger he might not need this treatment". lol |

Awesome thanks! I just spoke to the vet this morning that developed platinum. I ordered a 60 day supply to begin so if I like the results I can always switch to another product with similar profile! THere is also another " Copy" out there called Santa Cruz animal health.
I just looked at the Ingredients for Equine Calalyst and notice they use Glucosamine HCL and not Sulfate. HCL form, in horses, is poorly absorbed. The Sulfate has over 90 percent absorbtion rate.

Yep, I see it in my feed store all the time. I am going to give platinum a try since this colt is a little small for a 3 year old and its an all inclusive supplement. Not just joints... Thanks for everyones replys! |

I made my decision based on consults with my vet and the vets at Platinum. We decided to go with a regime of 1 scoop regular platinum a day and 1 scoop of the CJ a day. Keep him on that until he gets into heavier training then probably switch over to the CJ alone. :) |

I'm curious as to why to feed both? I was always under the impression that the CJ was the same as the PP but with added joint support? I've never really looked into the CJ because I know I couldn't afford it! But I've fed the PP and really liked what I saw. |

Great question! And I have the answer :) First off, you are absolutely correct! The CJ is the regular wellness formula PLUS some pretty intensive joint support. I am feeding one scoop of both because the original only has 850mg of glucosamine Sulfate. I would like a little " More" joint support than the 850mg, so by adding one scoop of the CJ I am increasing his support in that one area. He is not being used very hard now so it will be fine for the time being and its MUCH more cost effective for me! One bucket of the CJ will last 60 days with only using 1 scoop. 2 scoops of original isint enough, and 2 scoops of CJ is probably to much for his work load, so we went 50/50. Hope that helps |
