I've been having horrible migraines for well over a year now and they just kept getting worse and worse. I finally was able to get in with a neurologist and he ordered a MRI for this past Monday. They also send the results to my general dr too. That dr called me today and said that she wanted to make sure that I did have a follow up appointment and for me to make sure I didn't cancel it. But she couldn't tell me anything else. So of course I panicked thinking I was going to have a brain tumor or something like that. So I called back and begged her to tell me something, anything. She said all that she could say was that my brain stem isn't where it should be. She said I could have been born like that or when I was in a wreck December of 2015 I could have done it then. I've tried googling but don't really come up with anything. I called my neuro and got my appointment move to tomorrow at 930 instead of 3 weeks from now. Has anyone heard of this? Am I over reacting? My thoughts is it's your brain stem. The part that controls everything so any displacement can't be good.

Well you are still breathing and your heart is still beating, your able to type on a computer, chances are your migraines and the placement of your brain stem are not related.

The doctors are just doing their job.

No point worrying about it as you can't change the outcome anyways

Fingers crossed it is nothing

I am not a medical professional so take this for what it's worth:)

I am guessing the doctor is seeing signs of Chiari malformation.
I knew a woman with this and seems to be common. Her doctor told her should not ride but as you can imagine she did not stop riding. Another lady my aunt knew was falling asleep at work constantly. Turns out she also had ChiarI malformation. She had it corrected with surgery and never had any issues as far as I know.

Try not to worry too much. If it were very serious she would not have scheduled you three weeks out.

Ok, so I did have a brain tumor and the dr told me over the phone.  It sounds like it's something more complicated that can't really be explained that easily?  Anyway, my brain stem was pushed into an S shape, and it caused my left eye to not track correctly, my heart fluttered all the time, I wasn't sleeping well, and my stomach stayed messed up.  I was alive and cooked/birthed a baby with all that going on.  Whatever it is, you can deal with it. It's easier once you know.

Prayers that your nerves have calmed.
Also, stay away from google when it comes to medical stuff. I once had myself convinced I was going to die from a simple cold. LOL

It was Chiari malformation. He said I wasn't quit bad enough to need surgery to fix it. He did tell me I needed to quit riding because of the higher risk of falling. So with that being said I am going to UAB to have a 2nd opinion just to make sure he's right before I make a irrational decision.

It sucks but it's not so serious that you should be scared. Yes a second opinion is a good idea. I mean if surgery could help you keep you from having to give up riding, it may be the right way to go for you. Plus, if you can do something to get rid of your migraines without having to take pills all of the time that might also make it the right solution for you. But that surgery is no walk in the park. Take it easy and good luck.

My s/o had surgery for chiari malformation. It helped him tremendously and he is 100% better than prior to surgery. The surgery isn't long and recovery was fairly quick. It was a game changer for him, but his was severe. I agree that a 2nd opinion is a good idea!

How is your eye sight?  Do you wear contacts or glassses?  If so, that could be it. I had black out migranes and accidently had my eyes checked while i was having horrible migrane pain for hours. From those visits I ended up choosing to have lasik surgery(Thinking it was unrelated to my migrane issues) ive never had pain like that again. It may not be the same for you but something to consider because my drs never dreamed it was my vision.  Best of luck to you!

Totally agree with a second opinion. Praying that giving up riding isn't something you have to do.
