Did you feel RTP made her hot?  A vender had an open bag at the barrel race last weekend.  IMO it had a funny smell.

I'm currently using Roasted to Perfection. I love the smell of it! I almost want to eat it myself. My mare will eat it, but isn't overly fond of it, my gelding loves it. I haven't fed Renew Gold, though, because it hasn't been easy to get around here, so no opinion on that. My trainer uses Roasted to Perfection. Supposedly, because it is roasted, it has a more stable shelf life. It also comes from a clean mill. I talked with the owner about it at length, and she has a lot of good ideas.

This must have been a funky bag.  My friend and I both smelled it and without saying anything we looked at each other and wrinkled our noses. LOL

i have 2 tbs- mare loves teh renew gold & is flourishing with it.
My tb gelding REFUSES to touch it & picks around it when i try to feed it.
I have found that its kinda hard to get here also- i bag lasts 1 horse a month- so when im at 15 days i start searching for my next bag.
TSC says they only order 1-2 bags at a time. in winter i will grab 2 when they have it just to get my stock for winter

We had our mare on RG for about 8 months. She loved it but for some reason, I switched her to RTP. When I took her to the vet to get a chiro & accupunture, my vet looked at her and said switch her back to RG! She had lost some weight and didn't look as good as she had 6 months earlier. So, I switched her back and she looks much better. Our RG costs $27.99 at TSC, so I stock up when they have it.

I have both my competition horses on RG - I mix it with Ultium for my mare, but just RG for my gelding as he is hotter. My gelding that was just retired is the only horse that refused to eat the RG. Haven't tried the RTP since I have been happy with the RG. Our local feed store ordered it for us and just kept one or two bags in stock and it has now become one of their best sellers.

I have fed both. Continue to feed RG. Roasted to Perfection is very high in NSC and although my horse is a very easy keeper, he got pretty slender on RTP, more than I like anyways. My colt gets a half pound of RG a day and looks awesome & my gelding gets only a handful of RG a day during spring/summer. Both do and look very well on it.

I also want to try RG for my ulcer prone horse. I currently feed Ultium..anyone know how many pounds of RG you would feed with another grain? I guess I could also ask winwillows!

Most of our customers do not feed other grain based concentrates if the hay quality that they are feeding is good. If your roughage is bad though you can add some alfalfa cubes or pellets as a better choice than additional grain. If you simply can't stand the thought of no grain, you should keep the amount added to a bare minimum, not more than a pound or so per feeding. Most people are feeding around one pound of RG per day total. Higher use horses can benefit from one and one half pounds per day. That covers most applications. If the horse is underweight you can go to two pounds per day until you are at the desired weight and then back off to a more normal ration. You can call us if you need to discuss your specific horse. Our toll free number is on the bag.

I have been asked about the fact that RTP is extruded rather than pelleted. This does alter the starch in the product, potentially in a positive way. I have no issue with that. We use extrusion in the new Renew Gold Senior formulation that will be out very soon. There is a significant difference in NSC levels and ingredients between Renew Gold and Roasted to Perfection. It is that difference in ingredients which is much more significant than the process that is used to make both. They are very different products in make up and function in the horses system.
