Location: USA | I'm still struggling with saddles rolling on my horse. I have tried numerious saddles on him all with the same results... using different pads.. thickness... cinches...etc... It's just him and his shape. He's got a big round shoulder and whither. he's got some shape to him but is wide backed. Saddles sit on him nice but when I try to get on saddles roll right off him. Even trotting and loping circles my saddle wants to roll to the side. So my question is... how many have used a saddleright pad on a horse that has issues with saddles rolling? What thickness of saddleright pad are you using. Any suggestions on saddles that you have found to work on a horse with round shoulder and whither.
ETA: Should have clarified on my earlier post... I'm trying to find out if Saddleright pads STOP Roll on round horses. Thanks!

Location: IL | What kind of cinch are you using and how long is it? I have 2 saddleright pads and love them. Standard thickness, they are only made with 2 different thickness to them. |

Location: North Central Iowa Land of white frozen grass | I trully think that most problems with saddle rolling is the riders balance. You are trying to balance yourself on your feet. And I could be all wrong. This is just my opinion. I have big cow bred horses that have the shape you have. My mare is 16 hds and weighs 1,400 lbs and if I keep my weight off of my feet the saddle seems to stay better. But then I start to revert back to putting weight on my feet again and the saddle seems to start rolling . |

That's all wonderful... but I can't get on him because the saddles roll off. Thanks for your input.... |

| Saddleright pads do help with rolling, but with the kind of horse you are talking about, a saddle is just going to roll. Ed Wright told me once those kind are built like a tube of toothpaste. Isn't that the truth? I have a Never Tight Cinch and those help with roll too.

| My mare is built just like yours and I do use a saddleright. I put a thin wool underpad under it and that greatly reduces roll. |

| I have not read all of the replies but have you tried tightening your flank cinch? And I mean tighten it so it works like it is supposed to, snug. Not tight to cut off circulation but snug. I did this on a little cow bred mare I had with mutton withers and it made all the difference. And for the record I was using a saddleright pad as well. |

Location: Got Lobsta? | I had the same problem and when thinking the saddle was super tight, I'd put my foot in the stirrup and half way up it would roll. I now use nothing by Classic Equine Zone pads and for some reason it works - no rolling. |

I tried several that were too wide for him and they rolled as well... |

Location: Southeastern Idaho | I have two very round backed low withered mares. Any saddle or regular pad I used rolled terribly. I shelled out for 2 Corrector Pads and won't use anything else on either of them. Any saddle I use stays put. I don't worry about getting weight in one stirrup or another when roping. To me these are well worth the money if you have issues with low withers and saddle rolling.
Edited to say this pad uses a shim system and an internal skeleton that the designer says balances the weight of the rider. What ever it is, it works and I can use them all day on the ranch with no soreness.
Best thing is I don't have to cut them in half any longer when I cinch them up! They act and feel so much more comfortable when being ridden.

There is still hope the wither will come up since the horse is four. Good luck finding a saddle that will fit. |

| You know , I did some research on cinches because of this thread!! Lol. I have always used classic equine fleece but decided to try a 100% mohair on my round backed mare. Used that with my saddleright pad. It sure felt a lot lot more secure! |

| Thatβs tough! You could take him to a saddle fitter? Or a saddle shop and try different saddles and pads? Just see if you can get on without one rolling. I had a horse that was average and round and nothing fit him. The closest thing I found that worked was a single Navajo with impact gel felt contour 1/2-3/4β. Youβll get a hundred different answers so itβs hard to really know what to suggest. Some thing that works for one wonβt for another. I think it comes down to Just a trial and error kind of deal. And itβs a pita lol |

Location: Oklahoma | I use impact gel 1/2β w a BOT liner, have not got a SR as too poor, but anyways have zero roll as long as I use a mohair cinch and leather latigos also. . Horse is 1400 lbs and 17h . He is a big sausage roll w loooong legs. If he had real withers he would be 17.2/3. He has a custom tree 7xw Robbie Phillips saddle. Rope saddles stay put too as they are same type tree xw w flat bars . Lots times there are no rocks or mounting block around so If it works for me to climb on the giant , it will work for others!
And.... w the heavy rope saddles I can use a Relentless gel but not for barrel saddle it too thick .
