| What daily supplement does the best job ? I have heard alo Vera, smart digest ultra and succeed are all good, but no one has actually commented on using any of these. |

| For my non ulcer horses I use papaya purée, my vet actually looked it up on pubmed and vets have researched it in prevention and curing ulcers with success.
For horses showing ulcers I use omeprazole, I have had good success with ulcer cure OTC |

| Dynamite Clay. LOVE IT! Can be a bit of a PITA to give but have seen it work wonders on horses with very severe ulcers and its natural so I don't mind letting one live on it. |

| Our vets have always recommended a tsp of baking soda once a day as a cheap preventative to ulcers. Of course, a supplement made specifically for that would be better, but it is a cheap alternative. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | You have to be careful with the supplements for ulcers that reduce the acids in the stomach as they are not intended for long term use. People and horses need the acids to digest their food properly along with the acids breaking down bacteria etc that is injested.
I use the THE GastroPlus when needed which is during stress whether it be from bad weather, hauling and/or competing.
THE also has THE Equine Edge that ulcer prevent can be added to. Instead of messing with the acids in the digestive system, it promotes the production of mucous to cover the lining of the stomach.

| Gastrix. Not super expensive and my horses love it.
If they are showing signs of ulcer I give 2 oz twice a day and after oen jug (gallon) I go to 1 oz twice a day. I pay $65 per gallon I think, and then have it shipped. |

| I use FORCO all the time and Ulsershield while traveling for 1-2 day trips, if its a longer trip and multiple days I also give omeprazole. |

Just trying to get an idea on something to put in feed every day that might be a little cheaper, but works. He is on a low starch, low sugar pellet with a little wet down beet pulp, plenty of hay,grass and alfalfa. |

Location: Montana | Sea Buck has been huge for my mare. I have been using it for 3 years now and have seen a major difference in her. She wasn't an easy keeper and now she looks great and has worked much better than she ever did. I won't be without it.

I had a horse who had a history of bleeding ulcers. I had him on SmartGut. And dosed him with UlcerGard when we hauled somewhere he would have to be stalled. He did fine on that.
He's on THE Muscle Mass with the ulcer prevent added. He's been doing well. But he hasn't been hauled regularly.
You can always give some tums before a ride too to help keep acid down. Constant hay is the best thing you can do. Always have hay in front of them. On the road and at home.

Have you an analysis on your hay and your feeds. I was quite surprised to see an analysis come back way off from what the bag stated. I use Dairy One/equi-analytical in New York for my testing. I trusted my hay producers test and it was off the marks by a long shot as well. It never hurts to send it in and work from there to help your horse.
Ive steamed hay for one of mine lately and all the others are now having to slow consumption via a nibble net. I've backed way down on my concentrates and in the midst of trying some feed changes for a horse that is about to start a rodeo schedule.
Prior to the feed changes I used Equi-shur and gastrogard, As a bandaid to get us to a 7 week break. I've been making feed adjustments and he seems to be better. I'm going to start riding harder this week in prep for the road two weeks. I will take Forco with me as I believe it's really helped him in the two weeks I've had him on it. Currently he's on: unlimited grass hay a flake of alfalfa am/pm a combination of beet pulp, flax, ultium, and Renew Gold. I'm keeping a feed diary and hope to get some help from a nutritionist to tweak the amounts so that he can feel good and work to potential. Each and every horse is an individual and we have to recognize when their stressed and needing change. |

Several years ago NTO told me my horse was looking like¥€€>%#, well I called the # she gave me and met Bob. We talked THE for quite awhile. It helped my horse, but what amazed me was my friend who was hauling hard for the NFR had a horse with BAD ulcers. She got on it and it only. When she had him rescoped he was clean after very hard hauling for the year. It was worth every dime! Thanks NTO! |
