Location: Colorado | There is a perfect brown mark on white marble vanity in my bathroom, also one on the toilet lid, but I can replace that with0ut him noticing.
We don't share a bathroom, so I probably have a couple days, maybe a week before he notices, but I have to fix this FAST. Right now I have a bottle of lotion sitting on the mark, but that won't work for long.
Is there anything I can do to fix this short of replacing the entire vanity? |

Just the surface. I am pretty sure it's actual marble, but I am afraid to ask him (he's contractor) because it will arouse his suspision(sp). I am well know for doing stuff like this. |

It's a new one that gets super hot. I forgot to shut it off and found it actually smoking on the counter 45 minutes later. It shuts off by itself at the one hour mark, but I am lucky I didn't start a fire.
Normally I unplug it when I am done and put them up, but I got distracted by something that morning. |

Location: Oklahoma | Why not come clean with him since he is a contractor and will probably have a good idea how to fix it? A lot less stress than worrying about him discovering it and getting upset that your were trying to hide it.
I agree that if it was smoking, it is not marble . . . unless it was the flat iron material smoking and the mark on the counter is just residue from the iron. |

It's pourous and burns/ stains easily. My family owned an antique shop for years. If it's a deep scorch, it'll have to be sanded in some way, gently. I agree with the other poster, just tell hubby., unless you tried bar keepers friend and it worked ;) |

| If it grainte, marble or any rock like compund, you could go to a auto store get some fine grit wet sandpaper and wet sand the area and bug some rubbimg compound and compound the area. |

If I decide I would rather fix this mess than tell him, "Hey, honey, you know what I did today? I nearly burnt down the house! And I might have ruined that vanity in the bathroom you replaced last year!"

| You might try the wet sand paper or a very fine steel wool. Be sure to do an area about 1 foot square so that you do not end up with a spot in one place. I googled this for you. It might be helpful.

| It can be done. IF the burn is not to deep. First sand with 1000 girt wet/dry sand paper with mineral sprits. Once the burn is removed. Polish with a buffer starting out with medium girt polishing compound and finish with ultra fine compound. If you do not have a buffer you can polish with tooth paste and cotton rag and a lot of elbow grease. good luck!! A little heads up it is a lot off work. |

Location: Stuck in a cubicle having tropical thoughts | I've done this with my flat iron. Twice. Left it on all day while at work. We have white marble also. Luckily mine doesn't get hot enough to smoke. I've done nothing about. Told husband. He cares, but not enough to mention it again or fix it. |
