Location: Phoenix | We've got to make a decision pretty soon. Hubby got laid off, and we can't afford to live here. Plus we don't like it.
Washington
I could rodeo/be with horses
Limited job opportunities. Hubby would have hard time finding job and would have to commute at least 1.5 hours.
Close to my family/friends.
Cold weather.
Arizona
No horses. Might be possible but still no rig.
Lots of job opportunities.
Close to his friends/family.
Hot weather.
Cacti.
Horse goes to waste back home.
Either choice wouldn't be permanent, but also not temporary. Once a Hubby can work remote, who knows where we'll go. WA sounds like the obvious choice, but the job thing scares me. We need money, we've got bills, we need to start building up for the future. I almost feel more excited about the opportunities in AZ. But I prefer to breakaway rope and I know there's not much of that in this area (if I were to get a horse down here). The clock is ticking and I have no idea what to do!!!! Help!!!!

| what does your husband do again and what do you do? You're right, there is not a lot of opportunity to breakaway rope, but we do have several places to team rope and there are jackpots once a month or so. :-) (But I still agree...it's very expensive here, and if my hubby didn't find work soon we would have been off to Texas.) |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Where ever you guys can find a job that's where you should be, the roping will always be there so I would put that on the back burner untill I got settled back in with a job. Hugs and prayers that you guys find a plce to live with a good paying job.   |

WA is where the horses are.
But we live 1.5 hours from Seattle area which is where all the techy jobs are. AZ is a little cheaper and his mom lives there. Plus we like AZ. And there's lots of jobs.
Texas would be the next choice but it's just a bit too far fetched right now because it is up to me to buy my own truck/trailer and the only reason I would move to Texas is to rope/rodeo. |

Location: stray dump capital of the world | This seems like a no brainer to me. The job opportunities should be your driving force right now. If AZ is the best job opportunity wise, that's where I would go. Also, if your husband secures a good paying job, the opportunity to bring your horse to AZ is always there. You can buy a truck/rig in AZ and go get your horse.
My husband's career kept me out of horses for about 7 years. It was an unfortunate necessity to guarantee us financial stability. I've made up for that 7 year loss. We now have 10.  |

Haha!!!! It's just so hard.....I've been without horses for 2.5 years now.....they are the only thing that make me 100% happy. So I deal with that battle in my mind. |

I know it's hard. The first few years, I went through severe withdraws. I had to leave my best horse/friend behind and I swore I'd never do it. We were in a position transferring that made it impossible financially to bring him. He stayed with my folks, and I saw him on visits, but it wasn't the same. Once we moved here, my husband said I could get 1. My old guy had passed away during our moves, and I know my husband carries a lot of guilt still that I wasn't with him. One for me became one for the boys, then one for the husband, then a couple rescues, then a broodmare, then her colt, then a couple barrel horses and soon, we were up to 10. My husband kept his promise and we bought our place. The horses are right outside the doors. If I had not sacrificed the horses, we would likely be stuck in the same rut we were in 20 years ago. He had a career choice in mind when he was a kid that he was able to achieve. It has left us better off financially than had we stayed where we were in the jobs we were in.
I know you are torn, but look at the bigger picture. I bet if you go to AZ, you will find a way to get back into horses. I'm sure they have ropings there. Maybe not like back home, but they are bound to have some. Besides, if you move where there isn't job opportunities, you may end up too cash strapped to enjoy your horses. Sending you some prayers. |

Location: mi | Go where the job is the horses will follow. And honestly if you are AZ and start going stir crazy to ride. go find a farm that offers lessons or something on one of their horses even if its a new discipline. Learning new things would only make you a stronger rider and you just might find you enjoy doing those until you get back to roping. |

Congratulations on the marriage!! What kind of work do you do? The best thing to do is go where the jobs are not exactly where the hobbies are. An hour and a half commute sounds outrageous! |

Location: Where I am happiest | Job has to come first. Without the job, you cant afford the horses. Everything will fall into place once the job is in place. Get the apps and resume out, and God will provide the job where you are supposed to be. |

Location: Phoenix | Oops.....not exactly married, but we act like it. Finances have hindered the movement in that department, but we know it will happen. ;). I can do any office job....I don't really have a specific field . Interested in HR.
There's nothing between home and Seattle, except a mountain pass. So it's all or nothing. The only way I am with the horses is if we live in the home city, or if he commutes a couple days a week to the big city.
Right now it's looking like AZ is probably going to happen....but my mother is not thrilled about that. She wants me to come home. But workng fast food or waitressing is not that appealing. That's about all there is job wise back home. |
