Red fades. You'll have to maintain at a much higher rate.

Red is the hardest color to make look natural.  There are so many variations in shade on one person's head, it's unreal.  I'd always heard that was the case, and now that I have a red headed girl child, I understand why.

I not wanting to go completely red, I'm thinking strawberry blonde, not solid just kind of underneath and add my usual blonde highlights (frosted) on top. I'm medium blonde already, and I'm just tired of the same ol blonde highlights.

I bet that would work then. I've played around with caramel and chocolate streaks (sounds yummy...LOL) but haven't added red. Thought about it, just never did it.

Depends on the SHADE of red. I love my red hair, but it does fade faster than any other color, and needs more upkeep. And mine is only a subtle red.

There's also a lot of shades of red. Some are more coppery. I'd learned that I don't like how that particular shade looks on me.

I think if red is mixed in as a "low light" so to speak, you can make it look natural, and it won't be so obvious when it fades. This picture doesn't really do it that great of justice; it is more red in person.

I just went red, kind of. It was a reddish copper brown color. The color changes every day. The days I don't wash my hair it looks super red. I have some subtle blonde in it to break it up.
Good luck, mines been this color almost a week and I'm still shocked even I look in the mirror. Lol

I'm a natural redhead but I die mine as i have gotten less bright red over the years. I go a Copper tone in the winter and then noemally add some blonde for summer! It does fade so use a good redhead shampoo to take care of it!

I keep my hair in the auburn range by mixing several colors together from a light brown, med brown, dark brown, burgundy, mahogany and sherry.

Red is the hardest color to keep in and the hardest to get out.

If you really decide to go red, do NOT do box color. Red is hard to lighten anyway.. But 9 times out of 10, it turns a lovely salmon color when you highlight it.

I have naturally red hair and as a kid i never liked it! Now I do. :) I get a few blonde highlights. The older I get the less bright it is though but I actually like that.

Don't know how to post a pic. But I'm a natural redhead. Have had it from birth and now 52 yrs old. Still have it and haven't colored it yet, so can't help you there. I'm not looking forward to having to color when the time comes.

I went from very blonde naturally to dark for a few months a couple years ago. I did a very dark brown with red/violet tint to it. I absolutely loved it but it only lasted a couple weeks and I never could get it to go back to that color. It was extremely hard to maintain and when I did decide to go back to my natural blonde it was a nightmare because red is also the hardest color to get out of your hair once it is in. I did really pretty thick red highlights when I was younger with some dark browns as well in my blonde hair and it was beautiful, the red just faded after probably 5-6 weeks.

I am naturally a dark ash blonde, it's sorta mousetrap so I do red, any shade but this winter it was auburn, I inly wash my hair every three days, I have trained it that way, so I only get my hair done every 7to 8 weeks!
Please excuse sexy photo,,,

I love red hair, however be prepared, red colors fade very quickly and require quite a bit of up keep.

I am a natural redhead so I don't know anything about dying it other than it's really hard to make it look natural. Redheads can be sooo many different shades with varying colors of red all on one girl's head! My hair was fire engine red as a baby, but it's gotten slightly more strawberry blonde as I've gotten older. In the summer it's more strawberry blonde and in the winter it's a deeper red. My hair lady amazed me one day though because she had almost matched my hair color (on her hair) exactly! Get a good stylist/colorist to do it for you. Good luck! Being a redhead is fun and makes you stand out
