I found out today that my 6yo mare was sore on her hocks and a little on her stifles. I am looking for the best injectable supplement for the money. My options are:

*I would also like to put her on an oral but I realize most don't do their job, so I was thinking basic cosequin? I have a tub of it already and it has research. I just don't want to put many eggs in the "ora supp" basket..

Just FYI, if your paying 350 for a box of adequan your paying way to much. Most I ever paid is 275 with free shipping.

I got a screaming good deal on some Cosequin, so I've been feeding that to my 17 year old. I also did the loading series of Adequan this spring (started mid-March, finished a week or two ago), and will be doing Pentosan every 3 weeks now starting from the last Adequan injection. I use BOT hock boots and quick wraps as well, because it's his hocks and front ankles that bother him. Especially if it's chilly out or if I have a tough workout planned for him that day, I'll put them on while I brush and saddle for a little extra warm up.

Not to steal the thread but if your horse is sore in the hocks is it better to inject directly into the hocks or a shot such as penatosan etc?

Make sure it is in fact the hock and not suspensories. Get an x ray to see if spurs are present, they might be fusing, or other issues. Penatosan will not fix your problem but can temporally help elevate some pain.

You might want to look into PRP, also known as Restigen. Is a little more expensive but is longer lasting.

There was a statement and I can't remember where it was that Pentosan and Cosequin work very well together.

Thanks y'all by the way. Her hocks are fusing and with her conformation just general "work" is a little harder on her stifles than the norm. We injected both so she should feel a million times better. She already feels "better" but its only been 3 days. I just wanted to start a good regimen.

You started this post on the 22nd and posted "I found out today that my 6yo mare was sore on her hocks and a little on her stifles. I am looking for the best injectable supplement for the money. "

Today is the 24th (we are in the same time zone) and you stated she was injected 3 days ago.

Please explain your point in askng for opinions after the fact and acting like you were trying to decide what to do.

Thanks

I'm trying to decide what maintenance injection to put her on. Not wether I should IA inject or not. Yes, I had her hocks and stifles injected that day. My question(s) were not about wether the joint should or should not be injected, nor what to put in them. It's about IM injections for maintaining the joints.

Going to sound dumb but how does legend work? I know they say it only helps up to 24-48 hours out but how/why only that long? Seems expensive for a one time improvement.

Sorry, I read the original post wrong. I'll post some info on Restigen, which is a type of joint injection. However, I'll agree to Adequan vs Legend. Ive seen better results with Adequan.
