Location: Kentucky | Maybe I'm getting old, but I like a smaller jackpot. I really don't like running at 2:00 AM. It would be awesome if a show had warm-ups then went straight to open barrels. Around here, we have adult, youth, junior, poles, flags.... open is always last. |

Location: Texas | Our normal jackpots around here have over 120 to 150 every time. I love going to the bigger ones, they run so much quicker than the local small jackpots. |

With that said, I love the energy and atmosphere of an ammy or pro rodeo. But a lot of times, you can't beat the ground at some of the jackpots. So there's pros and cons to each. |

Location: NE TX | I love the large jackpots cause the payout is better if/when you place, but it is easier to place at the small jackpots. I don't really care as long as the ground is good, the atmosphere is positive, and everyone does their best. |

| I love ammy rodeos because you don't have to wait around all day to run like a jackpot, but the ground is typically not as good as at a jackpot.
Ammy rodeo around here, starts at 7, barrels start about 8-830, you show up, run and go home.
Jackpot around here, starts at 1, you get there at 130-2 to sign up, run at 9, roll your time bc you don't want to stay until 2am and go home.
I do like the big 3 day barrel races because you have a better idea of what time you will run and it's a fun atmosphere to sit around the trailers and hang out with your out of town friends! |

Location: N Texas | I like both the small jackpots and the bigger races. My only stipulation is that if there's more than 100 or so riders, I want to be able to pre-enter. I hate it when I show up an hour before the race starts and I get number 200 and have to spend half my day waiting for my turn. If I knew I was 200 beforehand, I would wait a little longer to leave the house. |

| You can't beat the rodeo atmosphere, so when I was competing I always chose the rodeo over a jackpot. I like the big jackpots because I don't know that many people and I can avoid the drama that our small jackpots always had. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | I love the medium size jackpots...though I've only run once at a 300+ bigger jackpot, that was AW4D finals in 2002. Trying to keep track of which day you were up in what arena was a full time job, though watching Hotshot run was a bonus.
My horses all love the gymkhana events though too, in fact my gelding tends to run a faster barrel time at gymkhana's even with substandard ground, no rake, etc. than he does at groomed jackpots. He always gives more effort there and I think its more that his mind is engaged from the different events throughout the day more than anything else. |

| I guess I hate the "sit around and wait" of the bigger jackpots, I either want to go to something really small where I can run and go home, or I want to go to something really big so I can drive off and go get some food or go shopping in the mean time, or I want to be at a rodeo where everything is pretty fast paced. I hate sitting somewhere for 6 hours because i needed to get there early to get one exhibition on my colt and then not get to run for 2 or 3 more hours and then sit around and wait for results. UGH, I'm bored just thinking about it haha |

I'm right there with you! The last time I did that, I got there before the race even started and had to wait about 6 hours for my run. I very seriously considered saying "screw it, I'm outta here!" but I really wanted to run my horse in that particular arena (it was his first time there, it was an indoor, and we had several more races coming up in that arena), and I had driven a ways to get there. It got to a point where I had already been there so long that I figured I may as well stick it out. That's the last time I'll do that! |

| I love the rodeo atmosphere, even if I'm not running until slack at 1am. I'd pick a rodeo over a jackpot any day. |

| I love the rodeos as well and it's where I've always ran unless I have a young one, but I'm finding the older I get, the more I am leaning more towards the big divisional races.
While rodeos are definitely a lot more fun and excitement, I'm getting really sick of bad ground, warming up on pavement, horse tied to the trailer for 3 days, rude stock contractors, etc.
I'd rather show up at a big divisional show where the ground is good, nice comfortable stalls for my horse, and people who are excited that I show up and actually thank me for coming. |

Location: Texas | I love the big races. 3 day weekend races always feel like a vacation to me. Especially in Texas they are all in smaller towns and I love going and eating at local restaurants and just exploring the area. Plus I love seeing the improvement I make in my riding over the 3 day period. I've gotten good at figuring out what I did wrong and fixing things before the next run. |

| Anywhere, anytime, against anyone. Except playdays. I leave them alone, I've always felt those were for the young folk. I grew up going to them, and have very fond memories and made life long friends there. If I had a youngster, I'd sure take them. |
