Location: Never in one place long | Next weekend I'm going to a saddle store to try and find a new saddle, I haven't bought a new one for over 10years and I'm ready! So far I think I want to try out a Martin and Circle Y Lisa Lockhart. Any others I should try? price is not an issue I just want something nice that will last and definitely want a back cinch.

Yep! I'm planning on it although I want it to fit both my horses and I might be getting a new horse in the future so hoping to get something that will fit most. I'm specifically going to this place because you can try any on your horse and ride them in it. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I agree with Nateracer, you need a saddle to fit your horse as well as you, do you want a saddle with forward hung stirrups or straight with your hip, deep seat, how do you like to feel in your saddle, what are you using now? Theres so many out there to choose from.. My most favorite in the saddles I have now is my Caldwell and then my Double J's.. I have a Crown C that is really nice to have too.. |

But obviously bring your horse. I also think the seat angle of a Martin is an "aquired taste". It rides significantly different than a Double J or Jeff Smith. On that note I won't ever buy another Double J, they have really chosen style over quality, to me.
I'd love to try a Jeff Smith, they are all getting excellent reviews!

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | I agree with TMEquine,^^^ im not a fan of the Martins but a TON of my friends are. I personally love my Circle Y the proven, its fit every horse ive put it on and it really keeps me in my seat.

He had three different trees at Shooutout and we had Hotbox and Feisty fitted for future reference. Hotbox was best in his 6-3/4" gullet. Feisty was the Standard 7" gullet. This one is the Standard 7" and with a little bit thicker pad it fits Hotbox great as well. He has a 7" Wide gullet, that isn't necessary on any of mine.
This saddle has a lower front and flatter seat than the modified cutter I have from Allen Ranch. It feels really balance and Feisty feels really free and comfortable in her front end with it on. It doesn't have the pocket that my Allen Ranch does, but nothing else I've ridden does either. I'm ready to make a run in it and see how it feels going fast. I've loved it so far just out riding and exercising. It's lighter than my AR as well. |

| The circle y Lisa Lockhart saddles are not the quality of the Martin saddles.
I am not sure the Lockhart will stand up to 10+ years. I loved mine, but my horses didn't like the flex tree, it made my one horse cold backed, and she has never been cold backed before, even an ill fitting Martin didn't cause her to buck.
As for Martins. If you are going for a crown c they changed the seats in 2015, the stirrups are more forward, the cantle is lower, and the pommel is different.
The 2014 and older crown c saddles a lot of people felt they would get dumped forward, personally this fit my style I am a forward rider.
The fx3 saddles are made to sit you more on your pockets
The btr saddle I have no knowledge of except it does have a flex tree, by looking at them I would say they may have designed it after the josey saddles
If you are going with the bigger gullets in the Martin these are more custom for one individual horse, unless all your horses are the same build you will either be collecting saddles or constantly selling them. This is why there are so many used ones for sale.

Definitely agree with this. The quality of my Crown C was fantastic but didn't work for me or my horses.
Really disappointed in Double J's quality, especially considering the price tag that goes along with them. My sister has a Pozzi and it's not half as nice as my Jeff Smith. Plus the JS fits both of my horses really well while the Pozzi fits just the one guy *okay*.
I don't know how big the store is that you're going to but don't settle on one just because you want to buy a saddle now. If you don't find one there that you absolutely love and fits your horse well, go to a few races and ask people to sit in their saddles or set it on your horses back. Many people know how much of a pain saddle fit is and will let you sit in theirs for a few minutes. :) Good luck! |
