My mom raised and trained working stock dogs when I was a kid so we always had at least 30 or 40 sheep. We had one old ewe who would have triplets every year, but only half of her bag worked so one lamb got kicked out every year, and became my project. We could have culled her, but she was a sweet old girl, and her lambs were a great project for me as a little kid.
My first bus driver still tells a story about driving down to our place early in the morning to pick me up for my first day of school
(I was the first one on the bus as we lived over an hour from town
). "Lamakins"
(who was getting rather large by this time
) had bailed over the fence and followed me onto the bus. She ended up having to wait over 10 minutes because this lamb would NOT let me out of his sight and the second I tried getting on the bus he would barge in with me... My mom was embarassed at the time, but I was Mable's favorite kid forever after that.
