to me it would be like running with one shoe on and one shoe off......never did it with any of my horses...shoes all around or barefoot
m
I agree. The best farrier I know told me that if a horse only has front shoes they won't use their hind end as well and their front end more since that's where the protection is. I tend to agree and shoe all the way around or barefoot all the way around.
^^^this. I have a mare that is lazy about even doing daily work. I live on gravel so that's where most of my long trotting has to happen as I have no arena. She never acted tender on the rocks so I didn't think anything about it last year. This year she's starting to get the whole running idea but was slipping out around the barrels. I'm pretty sure she's gonna end being a 4x4 turner. But anyway, I made the choice to put shoes on all the way around and now she doesn't hesitate doing the long trotting like she used to and actually has more get up and go once she figured out that the rocks evidently don't bother her back end now. I haven't had a chance to turn a barrel yet so I'm really curious how she does. Just my 2 cents.
