Herbie - 2015-08-07 11:16 AM No, I have a mare that is for sale through another individual, as I was hoping I wouldn't have to handle buyers and questions, and she is listed as "Private Treaty".  I have no idea why they listed her that way, as my asking price was only $10,000 and she is advertised on their facebook page at that price or slightly under as well.  If she doesn't sell in the next couple of weeks, I have decided i'd bring her home and just enjoy her.  My goal was to sell her so I wouldn't have to take out a loan to repair my AC unit that I had to replace, but already had to do that.  If she comes home, i'll probably relist her and my 2 YO and whichever sells first, i'll keep the other, but she's too dang nice to just give away or discount for the sake of needing to sell.

I'm not sure if the person you're selling the mare through is getting any money out of the sale...but if they are, then they've most likely put it as private treaty to tell potential buyers more than your asking price, that way they get more money out of it. (I've been in this situation, bought a horse for a certain price through a consigner, talked to the owner about the price a few months later and the consigner upped the price about 5k from asking and never told the owner.... ) I pray that isn't your situation!!!

It's not, she's openly advertised on their facebook page with a price and has been the entire time. But yes, that definitely does happen when we allow others to sell horses for us and I too know of these specific incidences.

As a buyer I skip the ads because I too think the horse will be out of the range I'm looking for or over priced.

As a seller, who has that kind of time to go through all the "price" emails. If you get 100 emails or texts asking for price you may not get one real interested buyer.

I see why some people don't want their sale information out there but it's the horse world it gets out there anyway. The only info people will see is the list price not the sale price.

Haha list and sale price are rarely the same number, so not sure what people are worried about.
