Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | Sherry Cervi said several years ago that horses and their runs were like a pack of cigarettes. Once you use them up, they are gone!! I might run my finished horses at a small jackpot if I need to fix an issue, try a new bridle, etc., but never just because I wanted to have fun. I want to save my runs for when they count!!

If your SO owns the horse, then you're dancing to his tune on entries. If you both own the horse, then it's bigger jackpots with good payouts and rodeos. Also, off topic, SOs, unless truly invested with years and years, really shouldn't get much say over what you do with your animals. Takes a ring for that, and only if they're paying.
Good answer!! Add to that mosrtSOs with long term investment will have learned that it best to be seen and not heard unless they are specifically asked.

He had 4 weeks off after the last rodeo of the season. Â Finals started 2nd week of October, and AQHA world is the last one the 3rd week of November. Â Series is early in the week, and I have a different finals every other weekend. Â Fortunately he is better the more runs you put on him and is used to running 4-5 times a week. Â He has only been running barrels 2 years and is 12 this year.Â
SO ropes on him too, he has never been "babied" always had to work for a living. Â He has had it good, the last year since his main job has been a barrel horse.Â
I personally think 4-5 times per week is way too many runs for any finished horse, especially a nice one
