I don't know if any 'redneck' attire has religious or spiritual significance like a headdress, eagle feathers, etc do to tribes. I wouldn't want to assume one way or the other, so I would either ask or simply pick another costume.

Therein lies the problem...people don't see a reason to be offended. Hopefully I can help here.

Let's take something near and dear to you...such as your kids (I don't know anyone on here and this is JUST an example). I take your kids that you're so proud of...and I ridicule them, taunt them, make fun of them, mock them, make promises that I don't keep, give them gifts that carry diseases with no known cure, ignore their accomplishments, and insult them. I make fun of the things that your kids hold dear to them and the values they grew up with. After all this mistreatment of your kids...I wonder why and don't understand why you are offended of the way I have treated them. Of course you would be enraged if something you hold dear is ridiculed and mocked...this is how (I'm guessing) they feel.

Definitely could have worded it better, but it's an attempt at an explanation nonetheless.

As a kid I LOVED learning about Native culture. I had books, wall art, you name it. I enjoyed learning about the Nez Perce of the Pacific Northwest, the Sioux tribes of the plains, Chactaw and Apache in the South. What do you think I wanted to be for Halloween...yes I dressed native. I did not wear a headress or anything ceremonial. I just wanted to feel a little like my heros.
