Turn out 24/7 and he needs a pasture buddy to play with but one that will play back and correct him if he gets out of hand. A yearling gelding would probably work just fine. I wouldn't wean him yet, let him bond with a play buddy then wean in a month or so.
Don't handle him for a while, let him bite and play with his buddy. I have never liked having just one foal, I think they need others to bite and play with instead of humans.
Geld him over the winter.
I totally agree with this. I think that weaning early because of his behavior is not a good idea. I'm also not a member of the cut early fan-club. They are babies and they are colts and it is part of their nature to be playful. Let him be a baby. And let his momma teach him some manners. Turn him out with some other horses and you'll be amazed how fast his attitude changes. Ultimately though, you are going to have to change the way you interact with him if you want to correct this behavior. It won't matter if he is weaned or cut if you still let him get away with it.

The boys always seem to be worse about being mouthy ... had one this year that was bad ... he finally decided he got enough pops aross the mouth that its not fun to bite!
I also suggest snip snip :

Leave the face alone. A real harsh slap to the neck or other parts of the body are real attention getters.

I agree with Barrel Horse USA. I'm always the meanest mare in the pasture. If they aren't respectful they are due for an adjustment. Using a stick and teaching him to move around you at a distance is good--just watch out for running over you and kicking. You have to think ahead of the colt. I never rub and scratch the in your pocket babies. It just makes them obnoxious. Teach those colts to turn on their forehand and hind quarters, back up and keep out of your space.
Gelding will take care of some of the obnoxious behavior but you have to teach respect.

I hate colts.... having the same problem. Never had it with filly's only colts, he's a royal pain in the A$$. Mine is 2 months old today...and when he's 3 months if he's eating grass/hay good and the gonads are down... snip snip and more snip.
And then I'm buying a BHW ad and getting him gone.
