They definitely need a heat lamp in the winter. And mine seem to be a little picky (much like my horses) - if the shavings get wet in the box they will not lay until I put new shavings/hay/or shredded paper from the office. Haha.

Β I started with seven, hatched out another 13, I think. All are at egg laying age. I went from getting 15 or so a day to 4. Lol. But I know a few are molting and with the short days, I'm not surprised. Just bummed because I have a gal Β that buys 8-10 dozen a month.

My friend is exactly like this--she had a sign up in my business window for fresh eggs and her contract number. But she told me this week to take it down cause the girls were on strike! I figured it was the weather, but it sure did hurt her pocketbook!

I buy a 15% pellet ( egg layer) , put a regular ole 60 watt or whatever I have and leave it on 24-7. I was late getting my light in the coop this year so they stopped for a bit but my hens are picking up the pace again.

Little more laying crumbles, light in coop and take them warm water in the morning and they usually never slow down :)

They have a heated waterer and they get pellets - maybe I need to post pictures of a McChicken sammich on their coop!
