He is looking at a Juliana...the smallest I believe there is. The breeder seems to be knowledgeable and has said they aren't available until 6-8 weeks old. They also said to feed only 1-3% of their body weight? Can be potty trained, etc. Not sure how I feel about having one in the house
They can definitely be potty trained to go outside or to also use a litter box. BUT highly suggest getting spayed or neutered if that is not already being done for you. This is where a lot of problems of bad or unwanted behavior can happen. My babies started to follow their mom to the "bathroom" @ 4 days old. I have them in an outdoor pen.
As for feeding, the guidelines on Mazuri brand mini pig food say to feed 1/2 cup per 25lbs. Plus whatever extra fruits and veggies you feel like feeding, if not extras, then increase the feed. All Pigs are different, and may need more or less.
One thing to keep in mind. Pigs do not get "full". They don't know when to stop eating... Pigs can become very overweight, just like us.
PM me if you'd like. I have 9 minis, & can help you out with any questions!
Yes, if you get a male, you MUST have him neutered! If not, he will STINK and try to mount everything. Definitley not something you want running around your house.

Location: Northwest Florida | I tried to own them once! I'm sure you will- but I would definitely suggest getting well handled and socialized ones. My ownership experience was not the best one!
A few years ago I purchased two sisters, drove 5 hours to pick them up. They were like wild little piglets! Absolutely terrified and wanted nothing to do with human contact. I think I had a very difficult time socializing them myself because they had each other. I believe one by herself would've taken to me more easily.
I ended up rehoming them with a family that had plenty of piggy experience, and I haven't tried to own another one since.

| My daughter wanted one. I started researching them and they have a very long life expectancy. Needless to say, we said no and visit a friend that has two of them. | |

| I had my husband got me a "teacup" pig, paid several hundred dollars for him also. Was supposed to be neutered ( he wasn't), although he was "fun" to have around our farm he ATE EVERYTHING! Cat food, dog food, chicken feed, goat feed, horse feed, our food, our wooden porch. They are food driven animals that never get full. I would highly recommed spending your money on something else. We had Bacon in the house during the winter also,,,,, he was potty trained but I had to keep him confined becuase of his hunger. Bacon couldn't survive outside during the winter either,,,,,,,,,, needless to say it was the worst money we have ever spent on an animal and totally regret it. | |
