Red3 - 2017-02-15 9:45 AM Does anyone have any experience with the 2009's or 6.4L engines?
My dad is a diesel mechanic and has been for many many years. All he seems to work on are the SickO's
(6.0
) and the 6.4 engines. He would tell you to go with the 7.3 for sure. Depending on where youre located, the truck may have a block heater, so you'd just need to pay attention to when it gets cool and plug it in. Would help with the hard winter starting.

We just sold our 2002 Ford F350 for $13,500. We ordered it from the factory and it was maintained to excellence. When we sold the truck it had around 120,000 miles on it. We had only replaced cosmetic pieces and a few hoses and such. The 7.3 engine is the best out there. We would not have sold it but our family outgrew the extended cab.

Wow guys I really appreciate all of your responses!! We are definitely taking all of them into consideration! We are kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place I feel. A lot of banks it seems won't finance a truck thats much older then 10yrs old....which kicks out the 7.3Ls.... But it doesn't sound like the newer ones are too reliable either

That's correct. If you have to finance, you're going to have to get creative. Look into getting either a personal loan or putting up the title to something else or a check with a smaller finance company. It will be tough to finance an older vehicle like that one, though.

If it has been well maintained you can't go too wrong with 7.3
I have a '99 7.3 with 380k still gets unbelievable fuel mileage. Bought it with 50kProbably 300 is towing, I have had to replace the glow plugs and some hoses around the engine and the rear seal. Every time I think of getting a new one
(every couple years
) I look at payments and keep the 99.
