Meep.Meep - 2017-10-10 7:32 AM Ok, go buy the crooked horse, I don't know what I am talking about
Sheesh! People are talking from personal experience and I know of a handful of HARD used ranch horses that toed out, some in both and some in just 1. None were ever unsound a day in their life. Some went on to be kids horses in their late 20's. Still rather sound despite old age arthritits in hocks/knees. TB race horses toe out more often than not it seems these days. Take a good look at direct front leg views. They still run 40+ races in a career. I am not saying you are not correct that yours were unsound...but it isn't the norm if the foot is maintained as the horse stands.
So am I and people are telling me I am wrong. Guess it doesn't go both ways tho? I had the one since he was a weanling and he was always balanced and maintained. I know other people have different experiences, but they don't need to be telling me it was something I did wrong or that it was some other issue. I am adding my own educated experience.

| The risk with toed out horse in interference with the opposite leg. As a trail horse/ranch horse it poses almost zero risk. As a performance horse you need to be aware of the risks and take the precautions available. I'd say no to a toed in horse, because of the strain on their knees, but toed out doesn't bother me at all. |

Just add your experience and don't take others experience to heart. I know everyone thinks their vet/farrier knows it all and are perfect in their eyes. I have had enough crap experiences to know there are a lot of vets/farriers that do not have the knowledge for every situation. You seem to think if they toe out they are condemmed to lameness. But there are too many instances out there to say otherwise. If I were you, I would never buy one that toes out. Knowing what I know, I wouldn't hesitate if it fit everything else I wanted in a horse. |
