Well I will add my story. Years back I had an original Bob Marshall. I really liked it and am sorry I sold it. But I want to tell you my saddle horn is my life line when I am running barrels. I was using it on a big stout gelding and when he left that third barrel that horn bent back to my belly and scared the you know what out of me. I will never forget that feeling.

Id guess it was the horse not the saddle, ive always found the gated horses to suck me down, just along for the ride lol.
Ive never ridden a foxtrotter though just guessing lol

I borrowed one and owned another. Just not my deal. My one gelding HATED it.. Goofiest thing I've ever seen.. He'd throw a dang fit.. Good to go with the crown c that fits him.

Did the bob Marshalll you rode in have the forward hung stirrups? I ordered one with the forward hung stirrups and I hated every second of that thing!! I could NOT post in it either b/c the stirrups would fly out in front of me when I put pressure in them....hated that saddle so I rode in it about 3-4 times then sold it. I can post perfectly fine in bob marshalls that don't have the forward hung stirrups though!!

I keep an original BM or two around because there are just some horses it is "magical" on and there are some horses that it is a tragedy on. I have had a few horses that did not like the feel....one of which I raised and I accidentally rode her with a saddle with a broken tree a couple of times before I realized it was broken. She had fallen with me and it broke my tree, I never thought to check because she didn't fall on the saddle at all. After that she was very particular about saddle fit and the movement of the treeless she didn't care for.
I still love them on certain horses but I don't ride them exclusively.

You know, the one I rode might have had forward hung stirrups. I just accounted it to how free swinging they were! And the gaited horse really sucks you in....it was funny because I'm so used to horses jigging and she literally couldn't!!!! So bizarre.
