You will have to reduce the upper what appears to be 1/1 incisor as it grows for sure. It will grow into the void the missing tooth has left. Do her a favor and rinse that debris out of the opening with some warm salt water. I know it is hard to keep clean but rinsing it will help expedite healing

Extreme Veteran Posts: 422 Location: Fort Bragg North Carolina	Had my farrier check it when he was out today to get a second opinion he thinks the tooth is completely out which is what I was thinking. I started rinsing it but at this point it's a waste of time they sit on hay so it packs with hay right after I rinse it lol

I've had a couple horses missing a front tooth over the years. You will want to make sure to keep up on regular dental work with her now. Otherwise the top tooth is going to grow into the gap of the missing tooth and cause her mouth to wear unevenly. Definitely, I have a mare that flipped over on a hot walker at some point (so I was told), but she busted her front tooth and I didnt thing anything of the dental work. But yes in a very short time you'll see the uneven wear on the mouth. Dental work every year for sure.

On most horses that have extractions, vets and dental providers will tell you to take them off of hay for about three weeks if at all possible and put on a senior feed. The senior feed tends to rinse out as they drink.

Ima Cool Kid Posts: 3496 Location: TN	My mare "Toothless Turp " headbutted the ground the very first day of being rode. she knocked out one tooth and damaged the other front tooth, at 2 years old. by 4 she had 2 brown deformed nubs the DVM pulled them and said the accident damaged the bones that the teeth grow out of . she is 7 now fat and sassy. she has no issues from all of it. (so far) I did spray water over the tooth flaps when it happened and the rest of that summer it get to smelling and i'd rinse it and forget about it till I could smell it again. will look for pictures.

Money Eating Baggage Owner Posts: 9586 Location: Phoenix	Ditto on the dental work. I have my dentist level out the bottom teeth because the top tooth is not there to wear down the tooth below it. If that bottom tooth gets higher than the others, it will catch when the jaw goes to move while bending the head and turning. This is why a horse may have trouble turning on one side. Very interesting and glad a dentist pointed it out to me!
