I thought I would love to live in Stephenville area until we went up there in the winter...Too windy and too cold. Seems you have to be as far south as San Antonio in order to get the mild winters.
You know you just made me chuckle!! Any winters south of I40 are considered mild in my book!! But yes, you've absolutely got the most beautiful winters of anywhere in this whole country!
I saw a comment about visiting in the summer to be sure. A visit just won't cut it, because you'll never come back. Summers in Texas must be eased into--you come in early spring, and stick it out for at least a year and a half. Then, and only then, will you be able to make your decision about moving permanently.
I spent four years south of San Antonio, and I loved the people way more than the country side. I got to be pretty functional in 100 degree weather. You come out and ride after 7 pm, or before 10 am, and you're set!
Something that really kicked my butt this summer was the heat/humidity combo in north east Texas. I'll admit to just riding after dark (staying where there's lights), and not hauling hardly at all. I'll take north east Texas cold and blustery any day! |

We do know what cold is as our last winter up North we had a historic cold winter with the actual degrees getting down to 40 below. We moved to Texas to get away from the cold but the last few summers really have kicked my butt. |

Location: Lala Land | I would rather be a snow bird than live here. lol The summers can be MISERABLE in Central TX, this yr we got quite a bit of rain and it was a sauna! Our ground is clay so that has been an added challenge (there are areas with sand just do your homework). I have waited since May for "fall" and it's 90.... sigh. The cool winters are amazing though, and there is a barrel race fairly close most weekends or during the week. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | I'd rather live in Texas if I had the option of spending summers up north. That's what we did last summer and it was great. From now through May, I expect the weather down here to be fantastic.
July and August in Texas is just brutal. From the standpoint of weather, every place in the U.S. has a downside, I guess. |

Location: Texas Big Country | The further west you go the less humidity. It still gets nasty hot but you can deal with it. It really cools off at night. You have to drive east to get to more races. I live near Abilene. There are plenty of little jackpots in a 30 mile radius and lots of nice bigger ones within 1.5 hours. Also Abilene is talking about putting in a new equine complex at the fairgrounds. If it passes it will be very nice. I heard Sweetwater is going to put a top on their outdoor pen as well. I haved lived all up and down the front range from MT, NE, KS and OK. Spent 7 years in SD. I am never leaving Texas again if I have a choice. |

Location: ~Kansas~ | I was in Dallas area this past weekend for a conference and I will have to say I was impressed. I told a friend if I ever moved out of Kansas and wanted to go to Texas I think it would be that area.
