I use electrical tape and it will stay in for weeks. I never brush it except when I'm at a show or it gets so messy it needs rebraiding and then I use the Ultra Cruz products for washing, conditioning and detangling (both spray and gel). I keep tails in a Tail Boot and never look at them until I take them down at a show. Seems to work great for me! I've heard about the electrical tape.. how does it do when you go to take it off? Do you cut it off or unravel? The electrical tape just pulls right off and the last wrap will often slide off when I pull on it. I unravel it. Yes electrical tape is handy, but doesn't always stay put real great...because it does slide off. We use them as an added security to tape our braids on our fake tails for show. Ain't nobody got time for a fake tail to come off in the middle of the class . Let's just say the show horses aren't "what the hell is the strange thing laying in the arena" broke. I could only imagine lol! My horses get all snorty when I set down their filled hay nets on the ground before I hang them up in their stalls.. guess it's a totally different monster when it's not hanging up. I'm at a total loss for my horses mane. Thin, scraggly and just not growing how I'd like. I may try washing it and braiding it.

I was always having to rebraid once a week when I did use bands because they would either slide out or dry out and fall apart. If the tails are braided but not in sacks or boots the tape will usually last 2-3 weeks. I can see how it might not work so well to hold extensions in due to the weight. I have never tried the tape on just hair, I just know it is one of those secrets of the trade someone showed me for the tail extensions. The tape sticks to the rubber bands really well, but if stuck to the hair, does pull off easy. We make 3 very thin braids behind the tail bone and then braid those together through the tail loop. Then secure it with the small bands. Then go around that several times with electrical tape. It's quite a deal for one class lol. Audie is nearly 17 hands and has a very full tail so his isn't as heavy as some and I don't use any added weights. He holds his tail very natural. I feel sorry for those horses that have 2 lbs weights added to the 2 lbs of hair. I like his mane short and thin and of course his grows long and thicker every year. My pali in my profile picture has a mane like human hair. Soft and silky. It tangles easy. I clean it every now and again. Use a conditioner that soakes in and doesn't stay gooy. Braid and just re braid if I see the hairs looking messy. His mane hangs around his shoulder and well below his neck if he doesn't try and rub it out just to be a pill.

Not sure if you were responding to me, but I don't bc its too slick for the tape and the coconut oil will make the bands break pretty quick if they're saturated.
