BB FlyinByU did this mare's brand in Arkanas. I think it looks fantastic and is perfectly placed!

Here is my current mare I had done - my brand is 6 inches and I really like how my branding guy placed it (he was the same one that did Lena, Runninbay's mare)

Not trying to steal the thread here, but when is the best time to brand?
Weanling, yearling or wait till they get grown?

Typically you want to have a smaller brand for the weanlings (Like Chelsea mentioned). I did Buffy at a year old and it turned out fine with our big brand.

ETA: Alexblagg - we do not have any restrictions for branding here in Arkansas :)

alexblagg - 2014-01-01 9:34 PM Bump.....I'm trying to figure out what companies everyone uses

www.brandedcayuse.com  makes nice brands.  They don't generally do character brands tho (picture brands)

Bump! Curious at what age you all prefer to freeze brand at? I've got a young two year old and yearling that I'm wanting to get branded, but I don't want to do it too soon and have them turn out deformed or huge.

Ours is 4". I have a friend that has one about 1/2 that and you can't see what it is when you are 20 feet away. Looks like a smudgy scar. If you are going to brand, do it so it can be seen, but not so big it looks like a bill board.

Ours are done at about 6 months old or so. The one on the brown horse was done as a yearling and the vet did it using liquid nitrogen. We did the one below at 6 months old using dry ice and alcohol. The vet left his on too long and burned a lot of hair and it is crooked because he did him laying down :/

Our irons are 4in individual and our brand is a Diamond over lazy D so it makes our entire brand around 8in.
I like it position it lower than most, on the thigh (its a thigh brand after all ;-)) I think theylook like cattle hip brands id they get up to high on some. Just me though 99% of people like them up high. Really its personal preference.
Id post a picture if I could.
