| Nail Polish is pointless for me. It chips after a few hours even if I'm not at the barn, or I smudge it thinking its dry when it's not. Refuse to spend money at the salon.
A fellow horse friend from college turned me on to Jamberry nails. LOVE THEM. Safe, non toxic, don't damage your nail, over 400 designs and a custom design option (hello bad*** NFR nails!). And they stand up to barn abuse.
I started selling them and they sell themselves practically - well on my way to funding my barrel season (heck yes!).

These are mine from early December when it was warm and I was riding several times a weeks. My cuticle is fairly grown out, so these are probably going on 7 days?

I love shellac/gel (I think it's the same thing) more than anything, but if I'm going to do my nails at home I like the Sally Hanson polishes in the square bottle. The formula is great for my nails and I love the wide brush. I also use a top and base coat to extend the life. I'll throw in another vote for the shellac! When I was Miss Rodeo SD, I did shellac all year long while the other girls were all doing acrylics. At the end of the year my natural nails were still in great shape - actually even better than before. I could go for 2-3 weeks on one manicure, and a pedicure would last for a month or more. I did notice that different salons will have different brands. The CND products are the best by far in my opinion...way better than the Gelish!
Oh my gosh, that is so true about them being stronger! I had mine done the first of December before I went to the NFR and the polish lasted right until Christmas and I didn't go back in and get them repainted immediately and I was afraid that I'd break a few nails doing daily things (picking hooves, moving hay, etc.) because I am so rough on my hands..... And none broke!!! My nails were longer than I even like for them to be and they survived. I just got them repainted yesterday and since I had a manicure also with the painting (CND Polish) it cost $35. It's also soooooo much faster than having acrylics or regular polish out on because once they stop the process with the alcohol you're good to go. |

| My advice: Get the OPI at-home gel kit. It's not hard to doat all! Love having my nails done, HATE taking the time to actually go have them done every 2-3 weeks. Had this kit for 2.5 years now. Love it! It also works with non-OPI brand gel polish. Also, your nails are not totally destroyed like they are when you take off acrylics. |

| I was so hesitant at first because I thought if I was going to be in the barn I was going to have to have short nasty fingernails or acrylics.
Love them love them love them. Having fun with this and paying entry fees at the same time - double the fun! |

Location: Idahome | Dazzle Dry polish. I got a mani at the South Point when we were there for the finals. I had to finally take the polish off because my nails grew out so much and the polish never chipped at all. I got online and ordered some and I love it. It drys in 5 minutes, so no smudging and you can buy the proper base and top coat with a nail prep online. I just barely took the original polish from Dec. off last week when my new colors came in. |

Location: So. Cali. | I do the gel polish at home with the UV light and everything when I find the time. Long process! Lasts alot longer than regular polish makes my nails a little more thick feeling, and I do not file them ontop to rough them up before putting the polish on, all are healthy when I finally peel the polish off out of boredum.

Location: NC | I've tried the Jamberry. They always seem to bubble and crack at the ends. I followed the directions to the T! Still don't hold like I want them to. I end up peeling them off after a few days. And it takes so long to trim and apply the things. I don't have patience! Lol
I may try the at home gel kits. I wish I had the ability to get to a salon every week or so. Just not in the time for me. That and i can pay an entry with that cash. Lol |
